so i tried patching a rip of japanese giga wing so i could get japanese dialogue and it won't run. not sure where i went wrong. i followed directions posted in the discussion here. i'm about to go on vacation for 2 weeks. i'll mess with it more when i return.

The patch was for usa version of the game. I'll have to look at jap version to see if file structure is different. If that is the case then the usa patch will not work due to the offset not being in same position.

Posting my interest for the matter. i searched the net for a JP GW1 RGB patch for days with no luck. why western versions removed voice acting?

It sounds like the patch may not have applied correctly. Some patches specifically require a BIN file instead of a GDI. You could try converting the GDI to BIN/CUE using a tool like gditools or GD-ROM Explorer and then apply the patch. Also, double-check that you're using the correct version of the game, as region differences can sometimes cause issues with patches.
