Typing of the Dead - Azerty mod

This mod changes the keyboard layout of the game to Azerty (mostly used in France and Belgium).

This mod was made for the US release of the game using the tosec dump "Typing of the Dead, The v1.004 (2000)(Sega)(NTSC)(US)[!][req. keyboard]". Tested on original hardware with dreamshell and USB4MAPLE.

How to install

Use xdelta or xdeltaUI. Apply the xdelta file in attachment to the track05.bin file of your gdi dump.

How to make other layouts

Open track05.bin with your hex editor. Search for the hex value FF 01 FF 00 01 FF FF FF 00 00 01 01 01 00 00 00. Replace the following characters according to your layout.

Edit 28/06/2025: adding support for some special characters that occasionally appear in the game.

I updated the mod because I noticed some keys weren't working. Four keys are unregistered in azerty. I circled them in red.

I reordered the layout to maximize the number of special characters. I replaced é è ç and à with their 3rd characters.
I also moved:
. to §
# to ^
% to ¨
% and . sometimes come in arcade mode and # often comes in drill mode so they needed to be reassigned.

[]{}+=<> and \ are left unassigned but I don't think they are used outside of training mode.
