I just got interested in the Neo Geo systems. I would love to pick up one of them. So I went onto Ebay just to look at the prices for kicks and giggles. I first started with the AES I knew that it was going to be expensive but for the price people are asking for them no thank you.
Next I looked at the Neo Geo CD and CDZ and they are still up there in price. I'm talking about $200 to $150. it seems like the only Neo Geo system that is actually a good price is the Neo Geo Pocket.
So really what this thread is about is simple. Why are the Neo Geo systems so expensive. I understand that they are not as popular as the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. So why is the prices so high.

Regarding the NEO GEO AES...it was extremely expensive when it was released. It was $650 US and the games were over $100 a piece. It was basically a direct home conversion of an arcade machine which would explain the high price. As you can imagine it didn't sell very well at that price thus they didn't produce many consoles or games. This is why it's so expensive today. If you're looking for a cheap system to collect for then the NEO GEO is certainly not it. Some of the games are even more expensive than the system itself selling for over $1,000 on eBay.

Tbh, when collecting Neo Geo games I think you'd be better off to get the Neo Geo CD it can be a little pricey too but from what I've seen are a lot less expensive than the AES. Plus I'm pretty sure just about all the popular AES titles are on Neo Geo CD. Hope this helps a little

Do you know if the Neo Geo CDZ takes the same power adapter as the Neo Geo CD?

If you want to collect fancy boxes, go for the AES. If you just want to enjoy the games, go for a consolized neo geo MVS!

I think I'm going to buy a Neo Geo CD. Sure the loading times are slow but so was the PlayStation.

That awkward moment when you compare PSX and NGCD loading times and psx feels like a next gen system loading off hard drives...
Seriously, get a MVS and a supergun, most of the games aren't that expensive...

THIS, getting a supergun can be pricey, but the MVS carts are SO MUCH cheaper.
