While on my very long and fruitless search for the MSR Internet Rankings, I stumbled across a couple of places where you were still able to find DC chat from the era itself. Nothing is there that you don't already know about the DC but nice to see what people were saying at the time.

Another old Usenet group but this is filled with spam (takes a long time to wade through and report it all). Here's a funny opening post from a discussion circa late 2000 that sadly got everything wrong!

"PS2: On Ebay, it is only getting in the 400's. All those jerks who hoped for $1000, HAHA. Demand is shrinking quickly. Dreamcast is hot. With the free keyboard deal at Best Buy and the giftcard. The Toys R US deal for $50 off, and the N64 deal at $20 off. Great systems for the price. The PS2 has no chance at all. Wait for the Cube and Xbox.

At Best Buy, PS2 games are already being discounted. $26-$45. Was $50 for every game. Sega wasn't discounting games so soon. Demand is gone, most have went for the DC, and even the N64. With the stock market fall and consumer slowdown, these are better choices. The PS2 section has no people and is fully stocked. All others are half empty with people around
purchasing.

Just wait until next fall, big PS2 price cuts. 4 systems can't survive. The PS2 will be the failure. The DC and Cube are definite winners. Remember the Saturn deal w/4 free games when the N64 came out along with PSX price drop. Think about it."

Ah, nice read

His predictions were based in the fact that the PS2 took a while to sell as expected, due to a relative high launch price and few quality launch exclusives, but then again, it was the "PlayStation"...

And he talks like if the Saturn was an astonishing commercial success - it did sell well on Japan and in some European countries, but other than that, it lost ground to PlayStation once it was released.
