A few quick questions (Q3A and PSO)

Post by ch0pzta »

Howdy all :)

Ive got a couple of quick questions regarding these two games.

PSO-
I am keen to get online with PSO, ive downloaded and burnt the disc that is used as a boot disk to automatically connect to the Sylverant server, i tested it with the only copy of PSO i currently have (burnt) and it didnt work, does it only work with original copies? I have a copy of the PAL PSO V1 on its way to me.

Q3A-
Over at onlineconsoles.com they provide an ip number that you enter in your DNS at the connection settings screen that takes you straight to their master server list (currently only has Tact's 2 servers), is there a number i can use to get to the DC Talk master server list?

Also, ive tried setting up a server and its not working, it briefly appears on the master list on this forum but says "timeout", and i cant see it from my DC. I think it has something to do with the master server i point it at... these are the line in the cfg file:
set sv_master1 "master.quake3arena.com"
set sv_master2 "master.id-q3a.games.sega.net"
set sv_master3 "dctalk.no-ip.info"
Is this correct?

Your help will be much appreciated.

BlueCrab's loader will only boot GD-ROM copies of PSO. If you have an auto-connect CD-R, it doesn't need patching to go online, anyway.

Ahh ok thanks for the info.

Ive just got a standard CD-R of the game from ages ago, not auto-connect or anything.

Ill wait for my GD-ROM to get here.

Here is the short and easy way to connect to our game servers:
Set your DNS to our server ip address. It is currently 100.40.25.69. You can always resolve the hostname dctalk.no-ip.info to verify that it hasn't changed.

Doing so will cause the following:
-your copy of PSO will redirect to sylverant (both CD-R and GD-ROM)
-Quake3 will be redirected to our Q3 master server and you will see our 2 Q3 game servers in addition to anyone else's who broadcasts their server to our master list. To see what's on there currently see here: http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/q3master.php
-4x4 Evolution will be redirected our evo master list where you can connect to our chatserver
-Planet ring will be redirected to our server

To connect to our Maximum Pool server you must download the save file here: http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtop ... 6514#p6514

StarLancer is still hosted by gamespy so you don't need to do anything special for that game.

Your configuration for your quake 3 server appears to be correct. Make sure your server is using the correct patch version if it is not appearing. Dreamcast uses version 1.16n. The "TIMEOUT" on our quake 3 info page here on the website just means it is taking a long time for the server to respond. Given that you are in Australia this makes sense. I would check the master list in-game to verify that it is working. From in-game the latency shown will be from your location to the game server, opposed to the master server (located in US) to your server.

Wow thanks for all the info!

I put in the DNS number and now i can scan the servers so that worked, i ran my server and it still doesnt show up on the list on the Dreamcast, but it DID raise the number of servers scanned, but only the four still showed up.

Is there anything wrong with this?
set sv_hostname "SegaNet Australia"
set g_gametype "0"
set g_inactivity "3000"
set g_allowVote "0"
set fraglimit "20"
set timelimit "10"
set sv_master1 "master.quake3arena.com"
set sv_master2 "master.id-q3a.games.sega.net"
set sv_master3 "dctalk.no-ip.info"
set sv_maxclients "4"
set sv_maxrate "12000"
set sv_cheats "0"
set sv_keywords "dreamcast"
set sv_pure "0"
set bot_enable "0"
set m1 "map dc_map02 ; set nextmap vstr m2"
set m2 "map dc_map03 ; set nextmap vstr m3"
set m3 "map dc_map04 ; set nextmap vstr m4"
set m4 "map dc_map05 ; set nextmap vstr m5"
set m5 "map dc_map06 ; set nextmap vstr m6"
set m6 "map dc_map07 ; set nextmap vstr m7"
set m7 "map dc_map08 ; set nextmap vstr m8"
set m8 "map dc_map09 ; set nextmap vstr m9"
set m9 "map dc_map10 ; set nextmap vstr m10"
set m10 "map dc_map11 ; set nextmap vstr m11"
set m11 "map dc_map12 ; set nextmap vstr m12"
set m12 "map dc_map13 ; set nextmap vstr m13"
set m13 "map dc_map14 ; set nextmap vstr m14"
set m14 "map dc_map15 ; set nextmap vstr m15"
set m15 "map dc_map16 ; set nextmap vstr m16"
set m16 "map dc_map17 ; set nextmap vstr m17"
set m17 "map dc_map18 ; set nextmap vstr m18"
set m18 "map dc_map19 ; set nextmap vstr m19"
set m19 "map dc_map20 ; set nextmap vstr m1"
vstr m1
And, after right-clicking and selecting 'Properties, the target path is...
"C:\XXXXXXXXX\Quake 3 Server\quake3.exe" +set dedicated 2 +exec ffa.cfg
Game is patched with 1.16n, with the dc mappack and segapak in the baseq3 folder.

Also, after entering the server ip into the DNS settings on Quake, i tried PSO but it is still telling me that the network connections need to be set up. Ive got the XDP Browser, should i use that to set it up or should the Quake 3 way work?

brourke - so you're saying that all those games can be played w/ BBA now then? For some reason I thought that only PSO and Q3 were compatible with the BBA. I thought you needed dialup for all the rest.

Wow, if so good to know.

What do you mean? I didn't mention anything about bba. You are correct bba only works with quake 3 and pso. For 4x4, max pool, planetring, and starlancer you need to use dial-up.

ch0pzta your config looks similar to ours I dont see anything in particular that is wrong with it. You can comment out the other two master servers you have listed though since they no longer work. Here is our config for reference:

Code: Select all

set sv_hostname "Dreamcast-Talk CTF"
set g_gametype "4"
set g_inactivity "3000"
set g_allowVote "1"
set capturelimit "8"
set timelimit "10"
//set message of the day that players see while connecting to the server. Must be set before level loads. Change below to your message of the day preference and remove the //
set g_motd "Welcome to the DC-Talk CTF Q3A Server!! To view your rank and statistics go here: http://www.dreamcast-talk.com/forum/q3stats.php"
// set sv_master1 "master.id-q3a.games.sega.net"
// set sv_master2 "master.quake3arena.com"
set sv_master3 "dctalk.no-ip.info"
set sv_maxclients "4"
set sv_maxrate "12000"
set sv_cheats "0"
set sv_keywords "dreamcast"
set sv_pure "0"
set bot_enable "0"
set m1 "map dc_map21 ; set nextmap vstr m2"
set m2 "map dc_map22 ; set nextmap vstr m3"
set m3 "map dc_map23 ; set nextmap vstr m4"
set m4 "map dc_map24 ; set nextmap vstr m1"
vstr m1
To answer your other question, yes you should set your DNS using the web browser. Using quake 3 to set it won't effect any other games.

Ah, ok. I just totally misunderstood your post because I thought the OP was using a BBA.

I really need to find a working dialup ISP again. I had been using one of those freedialup NH numbers, but I haven't been able to get it working lately. Server just times out when I know it's up (Sylverant). So I feel like it must be the access number.

Ive done a bit more research, i think its a port dorwarding issue, so i looked deeper, found info that said theres four ports that need to be forwarded, did that, still didnt work.
