i recently got an xfinity voice to save 15 dollars a month on my cable bill and i thought it would be fun to play my dreamcast online now that i actually have a phone line to log on with. i used a free isp from california to log on to the web browser and was sucessfull in downloading a vmu game or two.
having a little bit of trouble getting on to quake 3 arena. every time this happens.
i click internet game
i say no to seganet
i click yes i will pass up on seganet
i enter my free isp information
i click connect.
it asks me to save changes i click yes
it says are you sure? i click yes
i almost instantly get "server failure. connection closed"
it didn't even give the modem a chance to dial. i thought it was really weird. it even clears out the isp information. can anyone help me out?

Re: dreamcast online noob problems with quake 3
Issue here seems to be the VOIP service from cockmast. I was under the impression that dial up ISP's don't work over VOIP. I have tried through Vonage and they don't work. Maybe for browsing the web it will work but not to play a game online.
Another issue is that the Quake III dial up info editing option typically will not save the info to memory (i don't have experience using it for dial ip though). You need to use a web browser like Planet Web to configure the information properly then Quake III should automatically see the info and use it it connect with.
My advice is to go back to your web browser disc like PlanetWeb and try to configure the dial up settings in there. Then pop in Quake and see if it shows your settings for the first config option.

Re: dreamcast online noob problems with quake 3
i found it out because my dad told me he used his magicjack to do dial up, so i figured i'd try my comcast. i also was able to connect to the maximum pool server by downloading the gamesave on here to my vmu. works like a champ. i'm not sure if it is a quake "seganet" dial up loader giving me an issue or a fact that i am using a backup copy of quake 3 because my original is laying in a huge pile of cds at my parents' house and i'm too lazy to go over there and get the original. my browser disc saves the online data and maximuum pool remembers and dials perfectly fine. isn't there something that requires a different dns to be able to find the quake servers? or do you think i am in need to get the dreamcast dialed through?
i configured my modem with planetweb 2.6. should i try 3.0?

Re: dreamcast online noob problems with quake 3
ended up gettinbg my original disc from my parents' house. now it dials and it says unable to connect to master server. moral of the story, don't be lazy and download a cdi image if your disc is at your parents' house. i believe i need to use the dreamcast-talk as my dns?
i wish i found my ps2-dc controller adapter or my keyboard adapter... i loathe fps games with the dreamcast controller (i always aim with my right thumb... all the years of xbox/xbox360/ps2/ps3 gaming) ... does anyone know if the ps2-dc adapters let you use the right thumbstick to aim? debating on going keyboard/mouse or ps2 controller.
i'm almost sure i got rid of my coder cable... oh well... no linux online for me

Re: dreamcast online noob problems with quake 3
Did you change the secondary DNS to the current IP address of DC-Talk? That was the only thing I did when I had the same problem as you. This is in addition to making sure Just to note for reference, I do use the original game disc.
I also use the Dreamcast keyboard/mouse setup, which is the only way I can play it.

Yes. I tried it as primary too. I pinged dctalk.no-up.info and tried that ip... no master list, but I can get on the servers my manually entering ip. I saw you have a patched image on here. I will try that.

Re: dreamcast online noob problems with quake 3
You might want to try again now. Our DNS server was offline for the past week as explained here: http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtop ... 097#p70097 . It is back up now though.ccphilly1984 wrote:Yes. I tried it as primary too. I pinged dctalk.no-up.info and tried that ip... no master list, but I can get on the servers my manually entering ip.
