Agreed. The Wii is so bad I'm starting to use it as a stand for my "ancient" IBM ThinkCentre computer.

The Wii is a great as a GameCube, no joke. I have one I pretty much just bought to play GC games in 480p on my HDTV. GC games look great, better than any of us remember paying on composite. And since component cables for the GC are like $250 you're better off buying a $50 Wii and $10 Wii component cables.

Also Wii has Project M which is reason enough to have one. Once again your basically just upscaling a GC game though lol but that's a whole lot better than Brawl. Project M is my definitive smash option now. Now Melee kinda collects dust after years of gameplay and a near complete trophy collection.

I'm not talking about the backwards compatibility, I'm talking about the actual Wii. If it didn't have GC compatibility, then I would go to say it's one of the most disappointing game consoles to date.

If you just use the Wii without softmodding it and don't use the gamecube backwards compatibility, then yes its a piece of crap game console. There are a handful of decent Wii games, the rest of the games are terrible gimmicky motion controller vaporware.

If you own a Wii the first thing you should do is softmod it. There are excellent emulators you can add. The NES one is great because the wiimote makes an epic wireless nes pad. The virtual boy emulator is cool because you can actually filter 3d with a pair of anaglyph glasses. There are tons more of good emulators that you can add.

The Wii is an excellent way to play gamecube, allowing a cheap option for component video. If you can't find a good gamecube game then you must not be looking at all. The gamecube has so many great games. One thing you must have is a wavebird controller if you are going to play gamecube games!

Back to the topic of overpriced retro games.....
Does any1 have anything else to add?

Sonic Adventure: Limited Edition. I get it, it's the limited edition. But all it is is a portion of the Japanese version with a few bug fixes. I say it's not worth it if you plan on playing it. ;)

Agreed, I'm going for a full US DC collection, but I'm not counting that game, it's kinda just pointless unless you're a collector or massive Sonic fanboy (though...)

I seem to have some non-final Sonic Adventure 1.004, whereas the common final version is 1.005, but I have no idea what the differences might be. IIRC the LE is 1.002 or 1.003.

Good topic smith. I second that the rise of youtubers and retro gaming channels that get huuuugee view counts really is putting retro stuff out there more. Which i'm not saying is a bad thing but youtube personalities and the expansion of the www in general are adding to retro prices surges. I love watching a lot of the shows, heck I even learn about "new" old games watching their shows. Game Sack and Classic Game Room come to mind as large channels. Also our own Adam K and pcwzrd13 does a great job covering retro stuff.

I have observed some interesting things... Like when Pierce Brosnon was on the Jimmy Fallon late show and they played Goldeneye together. Haha I checked ebay and copies were "flying off the shelves". I'm sure the same happens when a big youtuber or someone in social media reviews a retro game. Anyways that's probably nothing in the big picture but in general I think younger people are discovering retro stuff more and more these days.

I remember Adam Koralik saying something interesting about game collectors. Like when you were a kid you had a game console, say it was a snes. Then when n64 came out you said fuck it and sold it off cause you needed money. Now that you're older and have a decent job and some spending money you can buy it all back. I have actually witnessed this happen with a few of my friends. Not me though I kept that shit haha. So this stuff could come in cycles.
