Fishing Controller Causes Dreamcast To Shut Down?

Regular controllers work just fine, but every time I plug in my fishing controller, the console shuts off and won't turn on again until I unplug the power cable. It wouldn't be too much trouble for me to just get another one, but if I could just go to RadioShack or something and get a new resistor and pop it in there or something along those lines, that'd be a lot easier (plus, no wait time for shipping.). If anyone has had this porblem and could point me in the right direction, that'd be great. If not, I'll order a new one and poke around and see what I can find. :p.
