Dreamcast Game Burning "Ethical"?

How do you feel about burning Dreamcast games? I personally feel that it's justified since you aren't supporting the developer by buying a physical copy or burning one. I don't really want to spend $50 on Shenmue or Power Stone 2 when I can get it free on the interwebs. Sure if it's like <$20 I'd buy it but when it get's up to $40-$50 I get hesitant. I know it's frowned upon by hardcore collectors, but I just don't know how to feel about it. What do you think?

It is no different than watching a movie on ebay or downloading a torrent > something that everybody does

Personally I do not have copied DC games, coz that is what I collect, on the other hand I have a comp full of emulators for old systems and home computers :p

With DC games nowadays 1) I'm not supporting the developer one way or another, there are effectively no new non-indie games for the DC, 2) I'll burn a foreign game to play since importing is time-consuming and expensive (depending on the game).

I'm trying for a complete US collection, but I'm not going to pay the outrageous prices for something like a Japanese copy of Border Down or Rainbow Cotton.

I support it because none of these games are even made anymore and if u find them most likely cost more than the system itself... Seriously in Detroit anything Dreamcast related is damn near impossible to find

I feel like in a non-commercial sense the lack of copy protection is better for the system historically, and a lot of the reason there's as big of a fanbase as there is. It allows players to play homebrew without any modification, which brew makes a cool experience for whatever platform. It allows more people to enjoy that otherwise wouldn't have. Sega CD for example would be a hunk of garbage if you had to pay $70 for a good game, opposed to burning a good one. It lets people years from now when the original 'legit' games start to degrade to still experience otherwise worthless or very expensive hardware

Summary :
It preserves what said system has to offer forever as long as the hardware is around

But do you burn any of the leaked games or homebrew?

Being the only console that can play standalone Half-Life mods as if they were retail games is a huge plus for me.

Also I really really think that pirated games are overblown as a reason for the DC's death. CD burners weren't nearly as common, nor was high speed internet.

Plus which system in the 6th gen still gets games? Only the DC.
