I knew HD Retrobit was working on Megasis/SNES cables, but not DC. There isn't any reason for it if you have a TV with a VGA input, but since those are getting rather rare, a component cable is an excellent way to get 480p without the hassle and cost of VGA -> DVI or VGA -> HDMI adapters.

It's also a decent way to capture without a VGA->HDMI scaler. Most HD capture kits will take Component (because that's the only way to get HD capture from a PS3) but I haven't found a VGA capture card ever.

This interests me since there's Dreamcast games that aren't VGA compatible, and many 2d fighters look quite pixelated via VGA cable as well. The component cables would solve both those problems I think, and if I had one that would thoroughly encourage me to get back into translating Seven Mansions.

@Green Ranger, don't get your hopes up. Internally this cable will be a VGA-cable, otherwise games will be unable to boot in 'high resolution'-mode / 480p. With a handful of exceptions, basically every title has VGA support or can be forced in VGA-mode. And for those rare title's that can't, flip the switch and play it in low-res.

Well the page there explicitly says that one of the downsides of VGA is that not every game plays in it.
It says it supports 240p, so maybe it converts the RGB SCART signal from the console to Component, as well as VGA to Component.

Re: Sega Dreamcast Component Cable is coming soon!
I'm not sure how useful a 240p output is, since not all TVs support such a low resolution. I was disappointed to find that my TV doesn't, so the Megasis component cable is useless to me unless I buy another TV or get a powered converter. Even the DC's 480p VGA signal is strange enough that some TVs won't accept it.

I've never heard someone refer to it as that. Very clever lolAleron Ives wrote:Megasis
That should've been the official title

Re: Sega Dreamcast Component Cable is coming soon!
Though I think the component cable is kind of silly. If you're that worried about the few games that do not have VGA support, and want to keep it legit by not playing it on a CD-R, then get an RGB SCART to HDMI adapter box and call it a day. There may be some flaws or cons to doing that, but as a few people stated there's still a chance the TV will not support the frequency given from the component cable
SCART to HDMI may provide a better resolution/picture than the component cable anyhow. But this is all my opinion

Yes the page directly implies that with their component cable it'll be able to play Non-VGA games. If they price is right I'd scoop this up.lastcallgames wrote:Well the page there explicitly says that one of the downsides of VGA is that not every game plays in it.
