New Online Shooter [TERMINAL] In Development

A new Dreamcast game called [TERMINAL] is in development by a guy named Rico Tyrell and this one is very intriguing for a couple reasons. First off, it's an online multiplayer game with support for both the modem and broadband adapter (although he's looking into local multiplayer) and second, it's being developed using the Katana SDK! Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this would be the first indie game to be developed using Katana.

Here's a description of the game from the dev:

[TERMINAL] (WIP title) is best described as a cyberpunk third person action game. I don't have an elevator pitch for the single player campaign as I want to focus on multi player for the time being. At the moment I have planned for four modes for two teams per session: Uplink, Corruption, WipeOut, and Disc Run. Uplink involves capturing a series of nodes in order to establish an uplink to your respective faction's HQ. Once a node is acquired by a team, the team gains points for every second the node is under that team's control. Corruption requires the offensive team to gain access to the defending team's mainframe and corrupt 100% of their data. WipeOut is a simple deathmatch-styled game. Most kills at the end (or up to a set amount) defines the winning team. Disc Run has players fighting against each other to steal the opposing team's data stash (I think a format such as MO disk would be neat for this).

Here are a couple screenshots and a video. Keep in mind that this is a very early build.

More information and a download of this build can be found in the forum thread over at SegaXtreme. Thanks to Tom from the Dreamcast Junkyard for bringing this game to my attention.

Im quite excited for this. Ive always wanted to see a DC homebrew game supporting connectivity beyond high scores beyond passwords. Something like how Alien front online had a worldwide leaderboard that updated when you connected.

A new online shooter would be great. I know some people will frown at using a katana dev kit vs KOS, but these days I dont think it should raise any eyebrows.

Good luck to these guys!

Yes

This will be truly great. A new homebrew, a 3D homebrew, and a new online game

Nope, because sega will never allow the use of katana and libraries for a commercial indie game, if they did there would be a lot more indie games by now

He doesn't really specify if he plans on selling it. I think it's going to be free but I'm not 100% sure.

I think even if he releases it for free, he can still be sued by sega

I don't think they'd really care at this point but I guess we'll find out.
