VMUTool/Dream Explorer not starting?

so i recently bought a new stack of CDs. felt like changing stuff on my VMU, so i burned dream explorer. burned it like i usually would, 1x (which turns to 16x since my drive doesn't support it), with the usual settings, burned, and it did so successfully.

put it in the dreamcast, but, it didn't start. instead it slowly moved the disc around, stuck on the dreamcast logo, not moving. i heard a small beep sometimes. then, it sent me to the music menu, with the CD having 0 tracks with 00:00 time.

what did i do wrong? it's certainly not the brand, because i burned a backup of chu chu rocket and it ran perfectly fine after booting with utopia boot disc.
