Possible FPS game "The Line Of Fire" Being Tested by DC Junkyard

Post by Bob Dobbs »

The Dreamcast Junkyard has posted a blog about an alpha build of a new FPS game they are testing called "In The Line Of Fire" (link below). The game comes from an indie developer called Militia Studio, and the team is made up of Jug, Ph3nom and sound designer Richard. Please visit their site for more details. Also, there is a youtube video of the game being played on a DC (link below).

The engine screams DayZ, I really hope they add multiplayer and move in that direction. I know it's probably not going to happen, but seeing a DayZ clone with online on Dreamcast would be the perfect video game, I'd pay full retail price

I am partially funding this game as a private investor. check my thread in the lounge. I have been in contact with Phenom (lead dev) and Wilson (the other dev doing the test video) for months. Cannot say anything else though.

Love conquers all. The dc market is in rude health though. The number of games released and incoming is impressive imo. I do love that I can still buy new games for my dc in 2016. Just awesome.

Me too. And yes, we are seeing a small uptick in games announced and released. It happened once before from 07-2010. and then it kind of tapered off for a few years till 2014 when things picked up again. The problem is the DC Scene has a stigma of having only 2d games made for it, and that' what I (and these dev teams) am attempting to change. We need more 3d games made and released to have things taken a bit more seriously.

My end goal in all of this is to hopefully entice a AAA dev to make a game port for DC. If one does it, others will follow suit.

Interesting. Its a nice thought- a triple A dev porting a game. But from where 3ds? I think modern games would be impossible to port. Maybe android and pc or indie games might work though.

Well best of luck. Ill buy both of these titles. 3d yes please.

The average CD-R hold 800MB (up to 950MB with overburn when pressed). If a company wanted to port a game to DC, multiple disc would obviously be needed, hell they could use GD-Rs which have 1.1GB (1.3GB with overburn when pressed). With low res textures and say 360p-480p resolution, one could fit ALOT onto just one CD-R.

It is possible, SEGA took the above approach with Shenmue 1 and 2 among a few other titles. As for the "they would lose money like SEGA did" argument, you have to think about it this way:

If a AAA dev prints 2,000 copies of a game for DC, but primarily sells millions of copies on PC and consoles, the profits made would far outweigh the small loss taken on the limited print of the DC copies.
