Maybe I'm a bit picky because I played the demo in Demul instead of a real Dreamcast, but, knowing that this is a downgraded (degraded) port, it's just that it has a LOT of color loss, it shows too much in the sprites and worse in the backgrounds, horrible.

I can say that it plays well and is fun but I feel that they have tried more on the subject of colors since the console can easily reproduce 16 bits of depth with 8 bits of alpha (24 bits).
Not to mention that it seems to be at the lowest possible resolution (320x240).

If they want $100 or $60 for that, maybe i just need to take the original PC version (i would prefer a wii u port) hope this demo was/is/will only a taste for the gameplay and not for graphics.

You have right, the background need more work with colors but the models is still good.

Code: Select all

LOAD SOUND MEM : data/se/mech3.wav
snd_sfx: loading effect cd/data/se/mech3.wav
WAVE file is mono, 8000HZ, 16 bits/sample, 28422 bytes total, format 1
LOAD SOUND MEM : data/se/stage1/yusou1.wav
snd_sfx: loading effect cd/data/se/stage1/yusou1.wav
WAVE file is mono, 8000HZ, 16 bits/sample, 176446 bytes total, format 1
LOAD SOUND MEM : data/se/stage1/chijou_senkan.wav
snd_sfx: loading effect cd/data/se/stage1/chijou_senkan.wav
WAVE file is mono, 8000HZ, 16 bits/sample, 55728 bytes total, format 1
STAGE LOADING 1 1 - PASS FIRST EXE
STAGE LOADING 1 1 - PASS SECOND EXE
fs_romdisk: mounting image at 0x8c6ccd80 at /rom
LOAD SOUND MEM : rom/stage1.ogg
LOAD SOUND MEM : rom/boss.ogg
LOAD SOUND MEM : rom/clear.ogg
oggthread: initializing and parsing ogg
oggthread: released from semaphore (status=2)
oggthread: stream_init called
oggthread: stream_start called
I can tell you if they were using cdda like VVVVDC not ogg files it no longer chug like it does mixing ogg on the same cpu as your sending everything is decoding then playing is super slow with out the silly ogg file play-back this be 60fps..

The game system is really OK but the game stands out from the PC version and the differences from the Switch version are huge.
- 2D backgrounds are tragic.
- Menu and font have low resolution
- The sprites of the hero and enemy units, bosses are also truncated
- The explosions and shots are of lower quality
- Very poor sound and music quality (as Ian mentioned)
- No support for vibration
- No soft-reset and back to menu option
- Slow response for speed up (f,f command)

I have 2 org. games from JoshProd and I can see that the level has not changed ...
For this he will probably add a 2-page manual and 40 euro + shipping ...

I recorded a video if someone wanted to judge it himself (note - Polish comment).

It's a tricky situation. I like buying new Dreamcast to support the market and keep getting new games for it. But I'm not a fan of paying 4x the money for the worst versions of some games. Hard to not go for a full speed, higher resolution PS4 or PC version for WAY less money
