I wonder if this poses any threat to the supply of GDEmu clones that are essentially a counterfeit product, among other retro game products that are copied or cloned by Bitfunx, Kaiko, and others.

Nay, those are protected since what can they do about it? Not a damn thing, Once somebody finds out how to make one, the idea is out there, and you know what they said about Hitler or Communism, once the idea is out there you sadly can not stop it. You can kill a man, but not his ideas.

I know of no patent, trademark or copyright on the GDEMU - so not likely.

I've never understood why at least the firmware was never copyrighted. :o So there would be some kind of legal standing.

Probably because it started out as a hobby project. The inventor himself opened up the design to be cloned.

Lesson: Be smart about business and get a lawyer if you have an invention ready for market.

Sadly Deunan screwed himself making these things so hard to find, The man opened himself up to getting murdered in the aftermarket sector.

He made his mind up. Only he could make them, no siding with Stoneagegamer like originally planned. He artificially hiked the price up because he was the only supplier. So I have no sympathy for what happened to him. I waited over 4 years to get my hand on one, and I turned to the aftermarket clone devices. So, screw him for not wanting my money earlier.
