Re: F355 Challenge online server revival
Nice work man!

Not really. Everyone Races by themselves and times are compared afterwards with the option to view a ghost race with the other players. It's a very barebones online implementation. I'm guessing Sega was on a time crunch and didn't have time to implement true multiplayer for release but wanted to include some sort of online functionality. Just a theory anyway.ncman071 wrote:also on dreamcastlive.net it says competitive time trial...is it actual multiplayer?

Re: F355 Challenge online server revival
I don't think the problem was a lack of time, it was just impossible to do real-time multiplayer for 16 players on a modem connection.
P.S. if you look at vs-link multiplayer, you will see that it is full-fledged.

Re: F355 Challenge online server revival
I moved the server to the cloud. It's accessible at 35.206.85.94.
You'll have to set up Dreampi to resolve f355.sega-rd2.com to this IP address.
I haven't used dreampi myself but I believe this can be done by editing /etc/dnsmasq.conf and adding this line:
You can also add an alias for www.sega-rd2.com if you want to browse the f355 web site.
We tested races with up to 4 drivers and it worked fine most of the time. There's an issue where the game sometimes fails to upload the final results and times out. But it might be an emulation issue so let me know how it goes with the original console.
I have no experience playing this game on the original server so let me know if something isn't right.

Re: F355 Challenge online server revival
@flyinghead The server has been added to the DNS server so DreamPi users should be able to connect now.
They could have easily limited the number of racers if they wanted to. But again, who really knows why they did it. They just did. lolmegavolt85 wrote:I don't think the problem was a lack of time, it was just impossible to do real-time multiplayer for 16 players on a modem connection.

Re: F355 Challenge online server revival
Something isn't right: f355.sega-rd2.com resolves to 23.92.76.195.
It looks like all hosts from the sega-rd2.com domain resolve to this IP.

Re: F355 Challenge online server revival
There are two DNS servers for DreamPi. I've added it to mine but Kazade still needs to add it to his. I think that IP is DreamPipe which hosts the restored website.flyinghead wrote:Something isn't right: f355.sega-rd2.com resolves to 23.92.76.195.

Edit: Kazade just added it to his so it should be good to go now.
