The debate used to be - can it be done on the Dreamcast?

I'd guess someone might do a tech demo and say "yes! It's possible!"

But to actually see a team of coders make this a reality? A game that was created by a huge team?

It really is mind blowing! Each update gets better and better... also can't wait.

Some of my fondest gaming memories are when I played and completed this on the PS2 back in 2001. It's also one of the few games where I almost completed everything. I had a 99% save - with just one mini-mission to finish. (the one in the car park, that's all I remember - car was parked on the top floor? and it was stupidly difficult!)

It just goes to show you how powerful KOS is and how talented these people are. Not to play this down, but you have all the content of the game existing, but a lot of code does still have to be written for DC SH4 and the PVR. But just look at the latest videos. This is on REAL hardware too!

Unmodified Dreamcast right there!

But this is why porting already created games over is often less work than making a game from scratch and creating every single asset. THIS is how we achieve AAA retail game quality on Dreamcast. That is why I don't understand people who complain about homebrew and game ports saying they would rather have all that energy go towards translation every Japanese game. I want to see those come over too, but porting games is also greatly appreciated.

Yo, that build came from my branch, which sped up the rendering using the KOS direct rendering API (I know cuz I added the crazy border colors, lolol). I just pushed another commit that will speed up performance a bit more using some optimization flags, but I'm worried it might've pushed RAM over the edge in certain areas... anyone played with it?

Also I fixed the issue with the analog stick, so you don't have to use only the dpad anymore... But it's still not controlling perfectly, cuz we're just mapping even the analog stick directions to digital key press events (cuz it's the PC version), since figuring out the actual controller logic is a pain in the ass... someone else is looking at that now.

For everyone wondering about controls... I will personally make goddamn sure that it supports true dual analog stick controls, as KOS has always supported that, and now controller adapters like BlueRetro that let us use such controllers with DC are cheap-as-hell and are mainstream...

Something I would LOVE to do and could do super easily is do a perfect implementation of the PC controls using the Dreamcast mouse and keyboard... problem is I'm scared to pull those KOS drivers in right now, because I know we're so so so stretched for every byte of RAM, and skmp has hand-optimized every byte of free RAM we have... don't wanna push us over the edge... although I'm tempted to make it a build flag, cuz I have a 32MB modded DC that would be fine with it... dunno...

Claude was stuck running forth and only had free direction when toggled the cam to overhead but never would hold still anyway

The second half of the intro (the police motorcade) would freeze maybe a quarter minute in bsod, could only play if skup.

Used on a MODE, rule out ODD fault

Nice to see, hope it goes far.

BTW, I think it would be appropriate to use assets from the "Grand Theft Auto 3D" Mod, as it tries to recreate the early alpha style of GTA 3 from when the game had supposedly moved development from Dreamcast to PS2.

Textures are much simpler and models also have less poly's. Which I feel would be a perfect fit for Dreamcast

Why; they are close to release it bug free. And almost if not 100 pecent identical to ps2 version
