Re: 1up.cpm/UGO are SEGA Haters!
hmm but they seem to be right with sonic, the only charecters you should be able to play with in those games are Sonic (duhh) Tails (without his giant vibrator) and Knuckles. the only other character that would make the cut would be Amy. why? because they are the originals and they all have their own styles. making tails pilot a stupid robot is the dumbass move. i liked it when you would have to race sonic in the first adventure, and fly and shit.

Re: 1up.cpm/UGO are SEGA Haters!
Coolinator is right on the money here. In the article, 1up.com is not considering the fact that the Sega we all grew up with no longer exists. Sega merged with Sammy in 2004 to make what is now known as Sega Sammy and they mostly focus on Pachinko machines and arcades (in the states, Sega runs Gameworks). It is not fair to criticize Sega Sammy's software development, or lack thereof, when their priority is in Pachinko/arcade development such as the new ringwide/ringedge arcade hardware. The article even argues that Sega should take lessons from Nintendo in its development of mario games (galaxy, karts, etc.) but they do not mention that Sega Sammy is more concerned with running their arcade business.TheCoolinator wrote:I haven't read the article yet but just the title is misleading and biased.
"How we would Save Sega"
Sega doesn't need saving. They are getting TONS of cash from Mario & Sonic games, Arcade cab sales, and bunch more other recently released software.
I understand the frustration of gamers who are hoping Sega will give us new and exciting games like they did before, or even a good sonic game, but I will second Bob's post, how many of the dreamcast era workers are still in Sega? If they are all still there, then we can criticize their software development. But, if they are all gone, then we should not be comparing their software development to other companies (capcom, nintendo, etc.) who only have to worry about making good games and not the arcade business.
Keep dreaming.

What you probably don't understand is that everytime SEGA has tried something new and exciting with an IP, it gets ignored. SEGA has constanly tried to release and market new ideas for games, but all consumers want is the same tired old, FPS titles. SEGA has been the only publisher trying to bring something different to the table, but people keep overlooking it. This is one of the main reasons why SEGA West is moving awat from publishing 3rd party titles right now.
How many people from Dreamcast-era are still at SEGA of Japan? Simple?Mostly everyone. Yu Suzuki is still at SEGA. He's now the head R&D officer at thier hardware amusment department. BTW, Probe is still part of SEGA, it's a developer and not even a publisher in Japan.
One of things that I do get annoyed with is how everyone keeps overlooking SEGA's arcade hardware and keeps assuming that its not that important and that its inadequate for Sega to focus on its arcade hardware. SEGA is an arcade company, they always have been. And you of all people should know that 98% of the time, a new arcade board always has a chance of becoming some sort of game console or stand alone home game machine from them such as RINGEDGE(but, I'm not going to get into that now.).
We should be applauding SEGA. They are trying to become that company that they were once known as. Stop devouring the talking point myths that somehow SEGA doesn't care about its old base, and that they resent the idea of someone asking them if they'll ever get back into the hardware market. We all know the old Atari is well dead. But the old SEGA remains, SEGASammy holdings is no different from the old SEGA. It just that the company had spent the last several years focusing on IPs mostly but that's about to change. SEGASammy wants to become a successful force in the game industry, but they realize
that they've never be taken seriously as a sole 3rd party publisher.

All I want is one more console from Sega that will support all of the old games like Microsoft and Sony does.

SEGA hasn't given up or ruled out another hardware run this time around. (Thankfully.)Bob Dobbs wrote:All I want is one more console from Sega that will support all of the old games like Microsoft and Sony does.

Frankly I'm glad they're going digital for the remainder of the gen and not supporting On-Live. It will give them an upper hand in the emerging DLC market. SEGA is reemerging as a force in the gaming market. I'm sure they've got some surprises up thier sleeves for everyone 1st party wise.
BTW,Sonic 4's mystery 4th platform still hasn't been revealed.

Re: 1up.cpm/UGO are SEGA Haters!
SEGA has delayed Sonic 4 Episode 1 until November. (Looks like they got sick of all those people complaning about the game when it was even availible for preview yet.)
Also the 4th platform is revealed to be the I-pad which leads me once again to suspect that STH4 Episode 1 is a DLC demo for some other bigger title being developing for a possible mystery hardware system.
