Are you saying that I can use my PC with no implemented modem and just connect it to my external one through an ethernet cable?Favrenation wrote:I use a network bridge like smith had but it is meant for one. The guide he posted is for DD-WRT which is custom firmware for routers. What it does is connect to a wireless network and then it has an ethernet port on the back of it to plug into any wired device. I use that because the PC i use for the server is running windows ME which does'nt support my wifi card drivers. If you use Brourke28's vmware guide then if you are already on a wireless network it will work.
EDIT: About buying a modem is has to be voice compatible. If your PC has a phone jack on the back of it it already has one.
I followed some of Brourke28 guide on how to set up using Ubuntu. He said that I needed to hook up my PC to the modem through a serial cable. My external modem doesn't have any. So I need to have another way of connecting it so I can have a bridged internet connection in Ubuntu 10.04.
If you know any other way as using an Ethernet cable or the WAN port on the modem I would appreciate the knowledge.
