In the video component is being compared to s-video. Shouldn't it be compared to VGA? I mean obviously component and vga are better than s-video. I would be more interested in how it looks before and after it is converted to y/pb/pr and then up-converted to 720p. Also in that video in the comparison to component, it is supposed to be in 720p, but the video itself is 720p. So by shrinking the video capture into a box in your video you've down-converted the up-converted video. I'm just trying to offer some constructive criticism. I realize you may not have an HD capture card. If you do though, you should post the actual video capture of your Dreamcast through component and up-converted to 720p so people can see what it actually looks like.

Capturing in VGA borders on impossible.

The video is in 720p, same resolution as the new component signal. Yes, technically the S-Video stuff is benefiting from it. But that should help make the point then. Because the S-Video is actually worse than depicted in the video while the VGA to component signal remains essentially the same.

Also, I intend to do game reviews by direct capturing. This was just to give people a basic taste between the difference.

Is it really that rare for hdtvs to have VGA. I have a 37" 1080p sceptre that has it, from about 3-4 years ago.

Well, it was less rare three or four years ago.

VGA is a dying format so less and less TVs are being made with it.

Well, both the tv's we have here are less than 2 years old, one a Sony Bravia, and the other a Vizio, and they both have VGA on them. I wouldn't call them rare.

The vast majority of Tv's sold in UK have a VGA or 'PC' input.
