I think a new Shenmue game would have to be a scaled down affair. No holidays to Hong Kong for the development team etc. The whole budget would have to be tightly managed and the scope of the game tailored to finances. Hopefully it will still be made by Sega but if not then a reputable third party could take it on(with Yu Susuki as advisor).
Afterall, all we want is a decent ending to the saga !
Yu Suzuki promoted advisor at SEGA AM.

I believe SEGA will eventually make another Shenmue. It will just be on thier own machine. Pretty much Everybody here at DC Talk knows and believes SEGA will eventually get back into the console business.Neohound wrote:I think a new Shenmue game would have to be a scaled down affair. SEGASammy has spent several years of R&D trying to come up with a way to design lower cost cutting edge game hardware that can slice the high budget of developing games, on thier own platformer, Shenmue III would have a very well balanced budget and would cost only $50 million to make.

Yu Suzuki is confirming that he will once again be promoted at SEGA as head advisor in engineering in SEGA's Amusment R&D, and will also be free to begin his own experimenting with his own new software company which is actually invovled in supporting Kinect.
What does anyone think this move indicates? Gamespot inaccurately reported it as he was leaving SEGA when he isn't.

This article clearly states that Yu Suzuki will be leaving his management position at Sega's AM2 division in September of this year, but will retain an advisory role at Sega. How you can consider this a "promotion" is beyond me.
In my opinion it sounds like Sega is simply putting Suzuki "out to pasture", he will be the latest in a long line of famed Sega game producers to exit the "New Sega", a shame if you ask me.
Lets hope that Sega has a similar first right of refusal option on publishing the games that Suzuki's new development team create, like they did with Yuji Naka's Prope team.

Hmm while I am sure that everyone on here would love to see a new Sega console, they are realistic about the chances of that actually happening.
I'm pretty certain that the only person who actually "believes SEGA will eventually get back into the console business" is you MrSega, along with SegaNews.

I know. Right now it would just be too much of a risk.SegaNews wrote:Sega actually wants to make the game, they are just afraid of budget ect...

Re: Yu Suzuki promoted advisor at SEGA AM.
Suzuki is leaving the company, not receiving a promotion. His role as an advisor will be providing advice on future projects, not holding an active role.
Re: Yu Suzuki promoted advisor at SEGA AM.
Suzuki is already planning on retiring in several years anyway. He's changing his post at SEGA so he'll just be advising new engineers at SEGA's AM R&D.(Basically he really don't have to do much anymore because he really doesn't want to.) He'll still remain at SEGA, they'll just pay him for consulting(doing nothing) while allowing him to expirment with his new company on non SEGA related projects. Thats what I meant to say when I said he's been promoted he really doesn't have to do much serious work anymoreBrianHFGN wrote:Suzuki is leaving the company, not receiving a promotion. .
I suspect in about 4 years, Suzuki will be taking his severance.

Re: Yu Suzuki promoted advisor at SEGA AM.
I believe that Shenmue has gained a cult following over the years like some movies do, but who's to know how good it would sell. I also agree with MrSega that Shenmue should not be multiplatform. It should be on Sega hardware, not just because of financial reasons, but because that is just simply where it belongs!

You misunderstand what this means. Suzuki is leaving Sega now. He shall be paid as an adviser to future projects, meaning Sega will request his input on some occasions. He shall no longer be an employee as of September.MrSega wrote:Suzuki is already planning on retiring in several years anyway.
