Re: Console vs. Emulator
Console all the way - being honest playing games like Sonic adventure, sonic 2 etc on Xbox 360 (downloadable) seems abit rubbish...
Dreamcast, it's still thinking.

Wizard, you could always download the game if you don't mind that sort of thing and get a set of Cha Cha Maraccas(I think that's what they're called)for ~£15 as some people say they're as good if not better than the originals. I bought a set to augment my official ones and to enable two player.

Re: Console vs. Emulator
I take more of a pragmatic approach in the long run, I emulate to test and purchase if they make for good time. I even delete them too. Ain't I the perfect bitch?
The best thing to happen to the internet since misleading marketing:

Re: Console vs. Emulator
I have to agree with most people. Using emulators on a pc is just not as fun for some reason. I don't mind playing a game thats being emulated on another console though. But there are some benefits to using emulators. Like being able to use netplay. Also savestates are nice for old school arcade games.

Re: Console vs. Emulator
You do realize that you can play emulators on consoles as well right? That is how I play my NES games, on my Dreamcast and PSP, nothing beats playing all the classics from a nice front end menu where I can go down the list and play it on a TV with a controller.daniel116 wrote:If I don't have the money I just won't play the game, it's not that I'm against pirating old games because I don't think it's immoral (the game companies aren't losing money when I download a 10 year old game) it's just that I don't enjoy playing console games on a computer
You say it like PC is the only way to emulate something lmao.

Re: Console vs. Emulator
Sorry for reviving this thread, but I'm wondering if there are any measurable differences between a console (DC) and an emulator (DC). As a matter of fact I have never played on a DC console back in the days and just recently discovered the possibility to emulate it. Therefore I have no chance to effectively compare these two options. To get back: Are there any differences in graphics, audio and/or controls between an emulator and a console? I'm playing right now on a pc with a xbox360 controller.
I appreciate your help!

Re: Console vs. Emulator
The graphics are different as they are never 100% the same, playing PSO on the pc presents some problems with transparencies just like PSO for the pc.
You may find problems here and there but the games are playable
As for the remaining graphics, only thing the same is poligon count, everything else depends on what settings your pc graphic board has and what settings are on the emulator (such as resolution), i was able to play PSO with settings that beat the game on the console, settings that even a ps3 would have difficulty to handle.
If you get controlers then the emulator is great, i remember playing soul calibur with a friend on a emulator and we wasted hours fighting each other.
I still prefer the console but emulating has it's advantages and it's problems, you can try it.

Re: Console vs. Emulator
Thanks for your quick response.
What I'm wondering most is, if there are any considerable differences in terms of controls. I have been playing Sonic Adventure for quite some time now and find it difficult to control the hedgehog. According to various reviews of this game one of the outstanding features back then were its controls. The question is, is it me or the different gamepad?! It would be great to get some opinions form ppl who have actually played both, the console and the emulator (at best with the same game).

Re: Console vs. Emulator
the analog is more intuitive then the keyboard, so i recomend a controler with it.
It's not hard to control him, but the keyboard will make your moves limited and slower.
Take pso pc for example, you need the numpad to control the char in 16 different directions, it takes me an huge effort in order to make quick changes and attack, i need 2 or 3 fingers and think where am i going to put them, with an analog, 1 finger takes care of all 16 directions, it makes things more efficient.
