Re: Console Wars: Who Won '08?
Lionhead, the creator of Milo canceled development for that unfortunately. Something tells me it's either because the final product made ended it being not as the good as the prototype because of cost maybe or it was just a gimmick to sell it. Why cancel something like that? Seriously. While the kinect is superior in hands free gaming than the Wii but don't give it too much credit. There's considerable lag which is okay in some games but racing games for instance that lag can be critical in making turns. All it is essentially is an infrared laser projector with hundreds of infrared lights. Look at this video for instance :segadreamcastlover wrote:the wii is fucking punny compared to the xbox 360s kinect sensor. it will blow away nintendo when it comes to interaction and gameplay. hell soon they will have that one Milo AI for the xbox 360 which he can talk to you and you can talk to him and interact with him. they even included emotions for him. god the future is coming at me to fast and im only 18, hell 10 years ago i never thought this would of been possible.

It's native resolution is only 640x480, Microsoft seemed to dumb down it's capabilities for their price point. It only costs Microsoft $57 to make each Kinect. And If your in an apartment or small house it's useless. There's a viewing range requirement for the camera that it needs you to be a considerable distance from it for it to track your body movements correctly and it's a pain to calibrate depending on your lighting conditions. This can barely be achieved in small rooms and often requires furniture movement. And you need a large room or living room space just to have multiple players. It's not as cracked up as it's led to be.

Re: Console Wars: Who Won '08?
Well, financially, Nintendo dominated generation 7, which was out of left-field completely, since they were almost forced out of the home console market in gen' 6. Microsoft are closest to Wii's 80 million sales, but even they're 30 million behind. I imagine the introduction of the Kinnect might influence that figure significantly before we move on to gen' 8. Now, artistically/aesthetically/technically, who won is up to whatever brand loyalist you talk to.
The argument of the Wii being a gadget or an "unpure" console due to its prominence is misguided, considering it has standard controllers available for it and is compatible with GCN controllers, and a store of titles the support such options. Yes, removing the motion controllers takes away alot of the Wii's appeal as its graphical specs are only slightly above gen 6, but I'll leave that, as I feel a debate about technical prowess equating to quality on a forum dedicated to a thirteen-year-old console to be redundant.

The best thing to happen to the internet since misleading marketing:

Re: Console Wars: Who Won '08?
It seems the Wii tried to focus on games. Its downfall is the Wiimote and underpowered. If more developers start giving the option of using the game cube controller, I will use my Wii much happiness....
