I agree with every choice already mentioned, especially Rez and Ikaruga. I also think MSR is a good choice. I don't always like the low resolution graphics in the background on some tracks, but the tracks taking place in Tokyo or in the San Francisco Financial district with the big skyscrapers are impressive - keep in mind all of the skyscrapers and geometry you are seeing have to fit into the equivalent of 8mb of memory!

:D

I read somewhere that the original title during initial development translated to "Sex and Violence." DOA2 for DC epitomizes the perv factor for me. It may be possible to set the PS2 version to flash all those crazy panty shots, but I'm not sure....I've only played that version once, ever, and it was pretty tame. Even DOA3 tones it down. Dunno about the latest one (yet). The fact that you can select/unlock different panties in DOA4 leads me to believe Team Ninja may have gotten back to "keepin' it real" again.

BrianC, I don't know which SF to recommend. Capcom is relatively hardcore and complex stuff. Wife doesn't like it, so without anyone to fight with, I haven't really explored any of it.

My favorites are Ikaruga, Under Defeat, Sturmwind, SA2, Shenmue 1&2 and in their own league Rez and Cosmic Smash.
I also like the style of Fur Fighters (much better than the PS2 version).

Yeah, some good choices there. And you mention Sturmwind and Fur Fighters which are both western made games. Alongside MSR and Le Mans 24hr they are the sum total of non-japanese games on the list. Maybe someone could come up with some more western games - there are tons of them on DC.

I'm starting to realise that myself. I think it's one of the Dreamcast's biggest attractions that so many of it's games are stunning to look at.
BrianC wrote:Not to get off topic but what do you think kept Outtrigger from being as successful as quake 3 or unreal tournament? I never hear it mentioned when people talk about the great Dreamcast games and it always struck me as weird

Oh and as far as that Sega look I'd have to add Power Stone. While it isn't a Sega title it manages to capture the look and feel of their games better than any third party game I can think of.
Was Outtrigger ever online in the west ? I can't remember - don't think it was ? If not, maybe that dented it's appeal over here ? Also, it's visuals might appeal to us Sega fans but maybe the majority of people preferred the darker, moodier visuals of games like Quake, Doom, Hexen etc

Powerstone is a very nice looking title in itself but I'd also put the second game up there in this beauty pageant ?!

VOOT: visual eye candy mecha style and a framerate that never fails or flinches, ever!

Absolutely ! A stonking looking game. Only the japanese could make mecha that sexy.

Btw BrianC and CD AGES, you mentioned Guilty Gear and Rival Schools. I couldn't agree more. To me personally those are two of the best looking games on Dreamcast. They don't have the same popular appeal of Soul Calibur or SF but they make up for that in quirky gameplay and fantastic characters all set in some truly beautiful, and different, settings.

I think there are nice looking or impressive western made games, like

NBA 2K1
MDK 2
Headhunter
Hydro Thunder
4Wheel Thnder
Starlancer

(correct me if some of those are japanese ones), but I think the BEAUTIES are mainly from japan. Maybe I forgot a western beauty?

I certainly forgot to mention Sword of the Beserk, I think that is a beautiful japanese game too.

Ahhh good ones! I'm playing through Starlancer right now and loving it and Hydro Thunder is beautiful and great fun. As far as Sword of the Berserk and DOA 2 I've actually not gotten to play them. I live with my girlfriend and she tends to make fun of the games I play sadly so the little naked fairy is just too much and when games get too slutty she gets annoyed lol. But otherwise both of those games look fantastic!

Guess what my wife said when she came in while I was playing a certain minigame in God of War 3?

Outtrigger was definitely online in the US. I think the game came out in 2001 and the online play only worked until about 2003.

I would add to all those,

Ecco,
Alien Front Online
PSO (in VGA it's gorgeous!)
F355 challenge (the magnificent)
Vanishing point (not bad at all!)
Propeller Arena
Eighteen Weeler
Berserk
Alone in the dark 4
Resident Evil: code veronica
Evil twin (dark universe, but nice)
Rayman 2 the gret escape (for the colours)

but it's difficult to get them all in mind (there are too many)
