Here's some Toshiba patents that were just updated after being issued on January 16,2012:

While I've been unable to fully sequence each patent in order, it would seem and does indicate that all these patents are parts of some sort of NEW optical player and once can also wonder if SEGA is indeed co developing the new media for and with Toshiba.

I have been able to do further research on these Toshiba patents. Mostly all of them were filed in 2009 & 2010 which means the concept is very original. Interesting enough, they were issued on January 16,2012 the same day SEGA filed the ORBI trademark.(Conicidence? I think not.) And were re issued this past Tuesday, evidence that development is moving full speed ahead.
I was able to find the HDDVD patents. And found 3 things: 1. The actual trademark is NOT owned by Toshiba. The 2005 trademark is owned by "DVD Laboratories". 2. All of its original patents are owned by DVD Forums & were filed in 2004-2005, issued in 2006-2007. And 3. Toshiba only owns a handful of HDDVD patents which were issued & re issued in 2008.
I'll gather more of these new optical media patents as more issued pretty quickly.

Here's the HDDVD trademark, as you can see it is not owned by Toshiba:

And in case anyone is confused these are the HDDVD patents that remain protected:

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7859784.html
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7880994.html
How you can tell is that the priority dates on these are before 2009. And filing dates in 2007-2008.

Glad to be back stu!
But guys... This orbi thing really does not seem to mean anything. In fact, it may just be a brand name, which means nothing.

@Trufis. The video is fanmade. The photoshopped console designs originated from FGN's second incarnation blog "SEGANEWSWIRE" which were leaked by the site back in August 2010 & were believed to be prototype designs for what would have been the console variant of RingEdge.
The only thing possible with this fan video is that SEGA is seriously considering
using the name "RINGWAVE" for its upcoming arcade machine.
As for HDDVD? Judging by the Orbi trademark description, SEGA has no plans to us HDDVD or BD as media for RINGWAVE & the console that may spawn from it we'll assume might be named "SEGA Orbit" but instead will use its own specially design original designed optical media format.

That's an understatement. Read the mark throughly, the Sega Orbi brand could be involved in everything. I'm talking EVERYTHING.
I also have this sneaky feeling that SEGASammy will soon no longer operate under their domain name "SEGASammy".
