it has been tried before, you don't make these things for $20 (there's a reason why they're so expensive). there's folks out there who managed to build one for theirselves, but on a massive scale?? taking parts, working hours, selling (no one's gonna hand em out for free) & shipment into consideration, you'll end up with a more expensive device than the bba already costs.

I agree they aren't cheap, but neither is Border Down. besides, if you buy one & ever wanna sell it again, you'll easily get your money back (plus a little extra).

If someone was really going to remake this thing they would have one on-hand though. There are only 4 ICs on the board. The Realtek 8139C is easily obtainable. I'm not sure about the Pulse IC. Two of the ICs can't be read from that photo though. Everything else is just common electronic components. The values for each of those components would need to be determined.

If the schematic for this board was sent to a pcb manufacturer the costs would still be well below the $180 bba goes for. I imagine it would sell for probably 40-80$. http://compare.ebay.com/like/3705674528 ... si=y&cbt=y 33 Realtek controllers for $25 I would say that is pretty cheap.

Thanks! This will come in helpful. Like a normal realtek card for pc cost like $5 so this could be made relatively cheap i imagine.

The IC on the connector side is basically a Sega-custom ASIC which adapts the G2 external bus to basically look like PCI for the RTL8139C. Cloning the BBA would require cloning that ASIC's functionality, obviously.
