why would it be sweet revenge? Plus, DCII would most likely use Blu-Ray if they want to bring out that 100000% experience...oh yea...I got a question! How much do you guys think it would cost?Gary_b wrote:yes i know. it would be fun to watch sony lose money trying to fight yet another battle on another front. and if sega was the one to make sony bleed it would be like sweet revenge!Kannibal wrote: let me point something out here...
there is a reason you don't see HD DVD's on the counter anynore...ands the reason is blu-ray killed it...

Re: Dreamcast 2
hard to say how much it would cost.
how could you not know what i mean. Sony was a huge factor in why Sega folded. they advertised and over hyped the PS2 long before it launched. in Japan they used DVD playing capabilities to sell the PS2. if Sega did all that back to them it would be Sweet revenge for Sega and for anyone who supported DC at the time. i don't expect you to agree with me. especially if you own a PS3. you probably would be pissed if the system got canceled. but that's how all the DC owners felt back in the day when DC got canceled.
i for one am not all that impressed with BR or HD. sure it looks a little bit better than DVD. but it does not seem like the leap that VHS to DVD was. when i first saw DVDs i was awed. the only thing that interest me about both formats is the massive amounts of storage they have. this could come in handy in the video game industry down the road.

I agree, a movie doesn't get any better coz its in hd, it just looks prettier, thats all; but then again they don't make good movies anymore so...

We are SEGA generation.

Re: Dreamcast 2
Unless SEGA comes up with their own HD disc format then maybe they can stand a chance because HD DVD is dead...the format is dead...Blu-Ray is superior!!! Plus, I don't think SEGA would want to get revenge on SONY for adding DVD player capabilities...c'mon!!!! maybe because of the hype, but then again it would be useless because many things get overhyped years before they come out, even when they don't deserve it!!! Shellshock 'Nam 67 was overhyped to be them ost realistic 'nam experience on your home console!!!

Re: Dreamcast 2
they wouldn't want revenge because PS2 could play DVDs. that is not what i am saying at all. they would want revenge for almost putting their company out of business. how do you think Sony employees would feel about Sony being reduced to a BlueRay software manufacturer? or how would you think PS3 owners would feel about seeing the console canceled and support disappear?Kannibal wrote: Plus, I don't think SEGA would want to get revenge on SONY for adding DVD player capabilities...c'mon!!!! maybe because of the hype, but then again it would be useless because many things get overhyped years before they come out,
i originally wrote up a bunch more about BR but this thread is about Dreamcast 2, not Sony so i am going to stop here.
i will try to answer the pricing question that you asked. i'm thinking about this as i type this up. i'm asking my self how much would i be willing to pay for a next gen console from Sega? i would not want to pay a dollar over $400 and even though i might be willing to pay $400. i think 400 is actually a bit steep for a video game console. a pricing point that matches the wii but gives the gamers more power for the price seems to be about right to me. what do you guys think?

Re: Dreamcast 2
They could make a DC2 for $199.99. Like I said before. Nothing fancy. We don't need it to do anything special other than play the software on it.
Stick a Naomi Board in it
Double the video ram and processor
DVD player I guess.....but i don't care
Broad band modem / 1 year free Sega.net
The key to all of this is for them to wait until Sony disintegrates. Sony is literally imploding because of the loss of PS3. They have been selling it at a loss since launch date and the price is still dropping. Meaning they are making even less money from it.
Xbox has lost all kinds of consumer confidence in their products due to the RROD
and Nintendo is easily bypassed if Sega caters to an adult audience.

Re: Dreamcast 2
Sorry guys I don't care to comment on any of this. I have talked about it too much in the past
. But I would like to give my "ideal specs for the Dreamcast 2.
First, I wouldn't name it Dreamcast 2. Although DC2 sounds cool. Maybe, a completely different name. Dreamstation hahah!
Make deals with popular PC hardware manufactures. I couldn't say if it would be batter to make proprietary hardware designs or just use PC counterparts. Using already available PC hardware could make it much cheaper to develop I think. It would cut down on R&D costs and would just be smart I think. Build it like a PC!
Give it a Sega Developed OS or maybe if they were to partner with Apple, possibilities are endless. Make the OS easy to port games from the xbox because you know that will be the number 1 for getting all the sweet games. Or just make it a easy and cheap console to develop for and it will win the developers.
Use AMD proccessor. They are cheaper and would be fine for use with a next gen console.
CPU: Phenom X4 9550 Quad Core Processor 2.20GHz, 4MB Cache, 1800MHz FSB
RAM: 2 GB DDR2 whatever frequency they want
Hard Drive: 200 GB Sata II 16MB cache 7200RPM
Motherboard: Proprietary space design with PCI express x16 ver 2,0 and on board 5.1 or 7.1 Dolby surround sound
Disc/Media Drive: Dvd Drive with support to read all DVD media and make the game media use Dual layer DVD. You need to give the developers head room for extra space. Not all developers might would be that great at coding the game so that it would fit on a regular DVD. Plus the next gen will require even more space for visuals and massive games (mmos)
Power Supply: A proprietary design for space would mos likely be best.
Video/"Graphics" Card: They may want to go proprietary here. But make a deal with Nvidia or ATI of course. If nvidia, something based off the the 9800GTX GPU. If ATI, something based off the 4850 series GPU.
I/O(input-output ports)
6 USB 3.0(will be out by then) follow 360 design 2 for wired controllers and 4 for peripherals
Built In Broadband Adpater. For the next gen i'd say don't even bother with dial up. Xbox live is broadband only and it is the most succesful online gaming service. Not having sial up doesn't hurt them. Plus, no current gen consoles even have dial up support.
HDMI of course
Digital (optical) Audio Out
Port for standard AV and component RBG connections.
Whatever else they might think of
This setup is not innovative at all but its simple. It could help Sega win over PC gamers. Sega's console have always been ahead of their time and had the best graphics, etc. when it came out. It's time to continue that tradition.

Re: Dreamcast 2
hmm sounds a bit pricey to me impulse. how much do you think they could sell this for? why would you need to include a 200 gb hard drive? to cut cost they would include a smaller one that is upgradable. hell 10 gb is better than what eh wii offers and MS offers nothing on its low end unit.

Re: Dreamcast 2
shit!!! I'd say about $1,000.50 [guess] is we make one with the specs Impulse posted...
Why not just do small upgrades to the current DC but only upgrade what is necessary in order for it to compete with NOW!!!
-internal memory[anything over 100GB]
-BBA[should be a default]
-HD[1080i]
-Backwards compatability
-new DC controller shape for more buttons cause the buttons match up to the ones on a PSP...
+Rumble is default
+Has an internal memory['bout 1GB] to take created characters, control configuration, unlock data, etc.
+Built-in VMU w/ LCD[480i] and improved features.
-Upgraded hardware and software...
-Games take advantage of hardware
yeah yeah...the list is a bit big, but it's the quickest start!
