cool thanks, I tried the link but the resulting links to the various checkers threw back some expired page errors, nevermind! still waiting for a massive update to finish downloading for the Witcher 2 lol

bit of a bastard this, I installed Witcher 2 and finally got it working but even on low it runs fairly slow, to the point where it takes a second or two for a command to register. Think I might treat myself to one of those graphics cards as it goes... did you say you have that card on your machine? do you reckon with it I could run Witcher 2 ok? I can run Crysis fine and Section 8 Prejudice as well, and Witcher works it just struggles to keep up with the dialogue and its not going to be enjoyable if I attempt to play like that

I am currently running a GTX 460 SE, which I am getting ready to upgrade to a Radeon 7850, which is the 6870's older brother. I was considering getting a 6870, but I decided to spend a bit more for something that will last longer.

This will give you an idea of what kind of performance you will see at 1920x1200 resolution Ultra settings and compare the 6870 to other cards:

30fps is acceptable for playing The Witcher 2, so the 6870 will be enough to play at a high resolution with ultra settings (UberSampling disabled).

I've just been googling for that newer graphics card, the ATI RADEON HD 6870 and was wondering which to get, its coming up several times, Sapphire, XTX, does it matter which I buy?

see what I mean?

Between the two I would go with Sapphire over XFX. You can read some reviews on Newegg.com:

ok, so this card is right yeah? cos its the one I bought

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150837264731? ... 764wt_1026

as long as I can play Witcher 2 ok I'm happy. Do you think it will improve the performance noticeably? From that chart you showed me it will run at a ridiculously high resolution with a solid frame rate, I only plan to run it on 1200 or so, I'll be interested to see how it fairs. more than likely better than what it is i should think

Yes it will be a significant improvement. I should have asked you what power supply you are running though, do you know? How many Amps on the 12V rail?

You realistically want to have around 500W+ with 2 PCI-E 6-pin connectors.
