Any infos about how to get started would be valuable.
thank you

try asking at Assembler, there's bound to be someone there who has the savvy, or who at least will know what software you need

Offtopic: I'm pretty sure that the printed DCs (MSR, Shenmue, Code Veronica...) seen there are custom paint jobs/vinyl stickers, not official.
Not a very long time ago a thread was made with a link to someone who does those paint jobs/vinyl stickers.
Impressive collection nonetheless.

@Raen, those DC's you're talking about are airbrushed by a German company with the permission of SEGA Europe. So they are official, but not in a made-in-factory kind of way.

I see, but still not very "official" to my eyes  Where were those sold?

They were only availible as prizes for competitions, in limited quanitities (don't know the exact ammount per unit). But these units are the real deal and official/licensed.

I hope you're successful with this. Granted, it might actually be a bit more work than you sound like you expect, especially if there are any textures that you have to translate (you might could get an artist to do it to match the original).

As far as the legality of getting a kickstarter project to do it, it wouldn't be legal. Period. Even though you're not using the funds to make profits off of the game itself, you would be using them to get a team to modify a game made by another company. In fact, it would probably be best and do like the other team planned to do - release a patch and not the actual translated CDI. It's likely someone else would start releasing the patched image anyway. Don't get into anything legal with a video company - unless you can hire Phoenix Wright.
