There was supposed to be an option to save when you exit the ROM in both 3.0 and 3.1 (it only appeared if SRAM was changed). It was working correctly in both versions. The only problem with saving was when saving through the in-game menu on 3.0. Were both save methods removed from the Gens4Good release?

If so, that's actually kind of convenient for me. Those versions generated a save file name automatically, but the next release is going to allow sensible, human generated names. If no one else has any saves, I won't have to write code to handle detecting old saves and renaming them.

Also, S3&K still needs a bit of work. The boss of Lava Reef Act 2 would have issues due to the lack of column scrolls.

Dreamcast Games you play Online: none yet, didn't realize this was around. Figuring it all out, but I still have my DC and games.

And hacker's site for the original genesis hack: https://editchris.com/

Everything else was really amazing, I forgot I was on Dreamcast, legitimately. This little hack cooks, Sonic is going really, really fast through the opening levels because with the air dash/homing attack you really don't slow down much and, you know, emerald is always the easy just run through type and the hacker kept it that way.

I don't know on the technical end if that pushes anything at all or if I am just played me some sonic 1 and everything I have to say is super predictable, but, if moving through the stage really really quickly means anything to y'all then yeah boy the emu handled it like a champ. Plenty of baddies on screen, sonic moving at top speed, no slow down that I noticed, not audio glitches because it's struggling and I did try to keep eyes on the green bar on the bottom too but I saw nothing but tiny little movements.

Really, really, really impressive.
Glad to see this. I've actually been working on a hack pack to make something of a "Sonic" collection myself. I don't want just another Sonic collection, I want there to be a mix of impressive original hacks that change up the formula, but without being pure Kaizo garbage. I think I skipped this because it sounded like it was trying to be a "director's cut" type thing, and between those, Sonic Delta 40Mb, and Sonic 3 Complete, I have a hard time justifying dumping special versions when most people would probably rather just... play the games like they originally were.

Sonic Delta 40Mb is the surprise considering it's a relatively large game for the emulator, but Gens4all runs it fine, with maybe a bit more stutter. It shoved all 4 Sonic games together in a single package, that's genuinely impressive to see running when the Dreamcast has less memory than this game fits into.

Largely, I'm still just waiting on the in-game menu or on SRAM functionality. I know the large majority of Dreamcast players here probably aren't going to play through all of these romhacks, and more than that, it feels unfair to put something like Sonic 3 Complete on there, and with the game being so large, no save functionality means it's a massive game you might not be able to complete in one sitting.
Sounds great bud!

I spent a while going through all the Sonic hacks I had to see what works and what doesn't.

Most of everything worked pretty well. Most just have some audio issues here and there and some graphic glitching, usually in the character select screen. For the most part if there was an issue it ended up being the hack itself not the emulator.

After I got rid of stuff that doesn't work I started to think some are redundant so I just picked one. I'm not sure if some of these hacks are not being circulated under two different names sometimes. I may checksum them in a bit.

I didn't really think about how Delta and the like being so big kind of means they're unbeatable currently. That is a very good point.

I'll upload my cdi if you like but you probably already have most of them so for now I'm just going to cmd a directory .txt and copy/paste the contents. There are some obvious ones to cut, like Delta and Complete, but I did run every single one of these and at least completed the first level. Some I got into a little more than others and played a bit farther. The Winter one, I don't remember downloading it or playing it back when I downloaded it but when I went through testing, man, that's a fun one.

 I forget this sometimes but I should point out, I rename a lot of them because their actual names are boring. Amy in Sonic 1, Big in Sonic 1, Vector in Sonic 1, great for remembering which hack is patched on which rom, but, boring. So yes, Amy Rose Hammer Time 1, 2, and 3 is really just Amy Rose in Sonic 1, 2, and 3. Most of them have their real names though.

There's still some buggy ones, like Jam 6, and some unpolished ones, like Robotnik Wars, and the big ones, like Delta, on that list but for the most part I think the games are good.

A CDI of this would be nice.

When I'm seing some sonic 3 and knuckles it means the game run with gens4all ?
with the megadrive mini for example you have only sonic 3... Knuckles is not found ^^
I did not know that  Sega's a funny company man. They do emulation and have done it for a while, just can't be bothered to do it well!

Tested it again this morning while I uploaded the cdi. Definitively works, bit glitchy but nothing that bothered me too much. I just zipped through act one with Knux and whooped the flamethrower thing.

I know the large majority of Dreamcast players here probably aren't going to play through all of these romhacks, and more than that, it feels unfair to put something like Sonic 3 Complete on there, and with the game being so large, no save functionality means it's a massive game you might not be able to complete in one sitting.

Dang, I just noticed this. Good looking out bud.

On my end, I didn't actually test any saving. I'll get on that promptly. When Wedge said it doesn't I just thought, dang, good point, and didn't even bother to verify.

Thanks a bunch for you work bud!

Sonic 3 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles both suffer from some graphical issues, specifically the save menu is glitchy and as mentioned earlier, Lava Reef has hiccups, and the special stages are bit jelly. Overall playable, but there's still the small issue of the sheer size of either game making it hard to beat in one sitting.

Neither the Gens4Good, Sega Smash Pack Stand-In, or any of the following repacks I've seen, have had the in-game menu, or SRAM functionality. It's supposed to be with the control stick, right? I'm not sure what Ian did when compiling, so he'd be the one to ask on that. I ultimately still made the packs knowing RPGs would be impossible to play through because they count as working games.

Anyway, Tested the following to at least the end of the opening level:

There's still some buggy ones, like Jam 6, and some unpolished ones, like Robotnik Wars, and the big ones, like Delta, on that list but for the most part I think the games are good.

Golly, that's a lot! Good testing, and good to see the redundancy, there's sometimes cases where certain romhack versions break on the emulator. I had two different lines of thinking with my choices. I wanted romhacks that would make for a good companion to Sonic Adventure, romhacks that evoke that same spirit and in gameplay, while being wholly original. I also wanted this to be a "higher quality" one, with descriptions and stuff. It might clutter the list more, but it's a touch of my own, and it doesn't make it seem like you're just playing Sonic 1 a bunch of times again but this time you're a crocodile. The only other thing I wanna figure out is PVRs and maybe how we could change the checkerboard on the Gens4All boot screen. One that looks like the blue background in Sonic 2's menus would go hand in hand.

I've compiled my most recent version.

Yeah, as best I can tell saves do not work.
