58 textures translated/redrawn so far...just a few hundred or a thousand more...
Finished the Options screen, so that's handy. Might work on the title screen next since that one will be a challenge.
I will be uploading progress here:

Great edits!
As megavolt85 said, SGGG fan translation is fragmented by X users claiming to work on it and then disappear.
There's not much incentive to work on something that others are working on! That's the only reason I've refused to commit so far, but there's nothing difficult on the technical side like RAH were.
Btw, MRG compression can be easily replaced with the optimized NZ algo assembly, which is very small and efficient.

there are two problems with translating this game.
1) everyone is trying to do it on their own or in a small team of several people
2) the genre of this game is of little interest to the key developers of the dreamcast scene
I admit honestly, I myself am not a fan of this genre, and if this translation is finished, I will hardly ever play this game, but if there are people ready to do the translation drop by drop, then I am ready to spend my time on it.
there is no need to try to translate this game alone, it is not possible, it will always end the same, just translate what you can and document it, the next translator will not start from scratch, but from your stopping point
I left a good example, you have an executable file with part of the translated texts and with the ability to write in English, just follow my example, no need to try to do the whole translation, do what you can and share this result, as a result, after some time everyone, including you, will receive a full translation.
motivate other users with your work, many can devote time to translating a hundred lines, but do not do this because they understand that translating alone is not possible.
if everyone translates one line a day and posts the results, then the translation will be finished this year, do not expect that some team will do the translation, everything depends on each fan of this game, and if the army of fans is very large, then caring programmers will always come to their aid, in the end, this is what the entire DreamCast scene is based on, abandoned by SEGA, but supported by fans all these years
First of all, be sure I'm very happy to see you back in the dreamcast scene, hope you are fine.
If I understand well There are already great talented people on this project, and I'm ready to help for little things that I can do.

I don’t understand why there is so much noise, it takes 5-10 minutes to activate the DEBUG menu.
Code: Select all
SGGG - Segagaga v1.022 (2001)(Sega)(NTSC)(JP)
R+X - show/hide debug menu
track03.iso
find:
32 60 24 D4 2D DD 01 88
replace:
32 60 24 D4 2D DD 18 00
Alternatively, you can use these cheat codes in Flycast.
Code: Select all
Segagaga 1.022
Debug Menu (Hold X then press R)
0101F98C 00000018
0101F98D 00000000
Segagaga 2.0
Debug Menu (Hold X then press R)
0101F928 00000018
0101F929 00000000

Thanks to the MRG Extractor prepared by megavolt85 and posted by ateam, I've been going through the game's textures and noting details of each .MRG and which textures within need to be translated & redrawn.
This is mostly for my own edification/tracking, but others are feel free to reference it here:

It's good to see this effort happening in the open. Did you ever get a git link up to share progress ?

Not yet. Been alternating between redrawing the title screen and family obligations for the past day. You can check out the Imgur album above for images of the in-progress textures (if you haven't already).

Said I wouldn't post (too many more) shots but this one took me long enough that I gotta share the effort.
Quite the challenge finding English fonts that matched the original style and intent of the Japanese characters, rebuilding the letter gradients, building parts of the image that didn't exist under the original characters that would show up now under the English characters...
Original for reference:
Anyway, feedback is appreciated!
