I'll take a look at PVRTex. I noticed that in PVRTool, you can save PNGs as PVRs, and they seem to include the alpha channel, but I'm no expert here. It seems the MRG decompression is figured out, but not the compression. Aside from using another compression method, does anyone have any idea how difficult MRG compression/packaging might be?

I wrote a command line texture converter, pvrtex, that has partial .PVR support, but I added it mostly so I could test the generated textures with pvrtool, so it might not create files compatible with real games. pvrtex doesn't support GBIX values, so if Segagaga needs those, you'd have to either add them with a second tool, or modify pvrtool to add GBIX support.
I appreciate the insight!

I don't think it's a problem that needs to be addressed immediately; afterall, no point in worrying about it if we don't have enough translated art for the game to make sense anyway. But definitely something we'll need to tackle as the textures wrap up. Currently 28% complete on the textures that I've identified that need translation. Right now I'm working on some tricky ones for the staff recruitment post-battle action that have a unique art style that I'm trying to match.

Linking it here: I made a patch and wrote up some notes about a new debug menu for Segagaga. This one allows direct access to the minigames and various other parts of the campaign.

Hi,

If I can give my 2 cts...

For Samba De Amigo 2K, I've used the Puyo Tools, they handle a lot of DC formats:
https://github.com/nickworonekin/puyotools

And I've created a .Net app to properly convert .pvr files, with the same attributes as the original, to prevent display issues.
I don't know if Segagaga works the same way, but as you can see, some .pvr files were located in a PVM file (some kind of archive).
And some files are also compressed (PRS compression). A real nightmare :D

Well, good luck ;)

Thank you for the insight, dukeblooders! I'll definitely explore that route when it comes time...

Re-draw of the "Begin Negotiations" banner that appears when you...well, begin negotiations with an enemy that you've defeated.

The other values that appear here are "Success" and "Failed," both of which I'm putting the final touches on. Besides the title screen, these are the most complex textures that needed redrawing that I've come across so far...

You can easily recreate shading style in photoshop with stacked blending modes:
use gradient ( color pick all metal shades ) + inner glow at center (additive blend or multiply)

Interesting, may have to try that. Looking at the original texture, these were likely pre-rendered ala Donkey Kong Country and then rasterized, and the version of PS I am using still has that capability so I'm using a similar workflow.

Here's a Version of _FINISH.MRG_31.pvr It translates to "TOTAL SALES" but I did "ALL SALES to make it fit.

I really like that. Can you make the text part above the gradient slightly more gold/yellow to blend with the original? But looks awesome.
