This is such a weird point of view though. I play on Dreamcast because I love it not because it provides an objectively better experience than elsewhere. Why play stuff like Half Life, Quake 3 or homebrew like Quake, Doom, Duke3d etc on Dreamcast then when it runs far inferior than on a 15 year old netbook? Because we love the Dreamcast of course.
Even a lot of Dreamcast games like Shenmue is available on PC and modern console now with much better resolution and frame rate but it's still not the same as playing on DC.
Emulation is great because it offers us a plethora of graphic options to choose from. Sadly I am looking at picking up a cheap Wii for more authentic 240p even though I would rather play on Dreamcast 100% of the time and it's too bad more software doesn't support 240p since the hardware is capable of it.
Not criticizing TapamN for this at all, he doesn't owe me anything and has put out this incredible emulator I am just disagreeing with your point of view on this.

The emulator is using hardware rendering so you cant play it with out it in that way it's not
"authentic" in any way so why degrade it by doing so..
Gens4All with PVR accelerated VDP emulation.
Using 3D hardware to allow this to be 60fps
Well you want authentic then pick up a wii
Again i dont use 240p almost no games on dreamcast did but a few the real dreamcast for me was always vga 480p it's what make it stand apart.
emulator was coded with 480p vga in mind most of us dev's dont use a crt ether but vga box
Point here is using the dreamcasts pvr hardware to it's full not downgrading it to suit whatever something came before it..
Bleemcast was a major thing why i even got into coding for the dreamcast it takes crap ps1 320x240 and turns it into 640x480 60fps upscales the textures takes out the poly wobble corrects and smooths with AAA..
Can get true 240p using a very slow megadrive emulator if you would like..

I’m not a CRT purist by any means and I also enjoy the pristine look of 480p VGA output but it’s hard to deny that games from this era look great on CRT at 240p, especially sprite based games.
A lot of people recommend the Wii for cheap retro emulation for this reason as it supports 240p and most of the emulators and virtual console supports it. Giving a somewhat authentic emulation experience on CRT.

Where did you get that adapter? I'm familiar with the SCART 480p adapter, but this looks to be something different.

I guess he's asking for scanlines - which get created when a 240p signal (old school console) is fed into a 480i TV. There are Dreamcast VGA to HDMI boxes available that can create artificial scanlines - plus whatever the heck aldair is doing with scanlines!

Me too. You guys got it right with gens4all - upscaling 2x and outputting 480p 60fps vga. Just a fantastic piece of code for the Dreamcast.

VGA to 2D is very pure without smoothing, the Dreamcast is not made for modern monitors.
240p is required to play kof98,99evolution and last blade 2.
