Re: Cyborg Force For Dreamcast
This is one of those times where I hope Wave pick this one up to distribute in the UK. I can't justify it otherwise sadly!

A reason for a "definitive" or special edition

Is Wave still active? Hmm...Dreamcastnews wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 11:26 am This is one of those times where I hope Wave pick this one up to distribute in the UK. I can't justify it otherwise sadly!

Re: Cyborg Force For Dreamcast
I wrote a big reply to that question … But had to login again to quote and lost it.
Anyway; I don’t think Wave will be back, they haven’t been the same since the sell off of they’re inventory a year or so ago, they’ve only got Driving Strikers PAL to come out, and that’s a game that’s been ready and out for ages now so surely slap them in some Chu Chu Rocket cases and get them out there. It didn’t sell as expected from what they’ve said…
They did have a whole host of games in secret folders that they teased over 2023 (maybe 2022…), none of which have been revealed or the extras for the demo disc on their website so it’s fairly easy to conclude that they’re rethinking things..
of course, the Dreamcast anniversary is coming up and perhaps this comment will age like milk. We shall see.
Hopefully they’re okay either way.

Re: Cyborg Force For Dreamcast
Thought Wave Games were in trouble, didn't they say they needed a break? Would be a shame as I liked what they did but they definitely grossly over estimated the size of the Dreamcast homebrew market. Driving Strikers was never going to sell well, primarily a online game in a tiny market which requires those who own an expensive and sought after DreamPi to access. Needed a run of 200 physical copies max.Dreamcastnews wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 11:00 am I wrote a big reply to that question … But had to login again to quote and lost it.

Then they spent the year releasing loads of games but surely should have focused on just those exclusives they had; Intrepid Izzy, Postal and Shadow Gangs instead of releasing turds like Yeah Yeah Beebiss and games like Flea! Xenocider Alice Dreams etc which I'm sure most Dreamcast owners who wanted a copy of them would have already had one. Can the market really support multiple reissues? Especially of games that are already freely available. Probably could have focused on very short reissues of homebrew games that have long been out of print.
Harlequest no longer being published on Wave was a red flag but I hope that they do reappear as I really liked what they did, they just need to be more realistic about the size of the market they are selling to and be less ambitious with the quantity of releases.

Re: Cyborg Force For Dreamcast
Got my copy for Cyber force. Presentation is top notch. Xeno Crisis levels of quality and the soundtrack is up there with some of the best. Gameplay wise... This is insanely difficult, makes metal slug seem like playschool, and I'm not entirely sure in a good way (metal slug is challenging enough), being sent back to the beginning when using a continue is very harsh, and I'm getting destroyed on the lowest difficulty. Really do wish some of these homebrew games lowered the challenge a bit as most don't have god-like gaming abilities.
Animation is fluid and looks great although a few extra frames of animation on the sprites would have really helped to give everything some extra character. Definitely will be playing this a bit although I wish that the difficulty was toned down.
Really looking forward to what Neo Byte Force has coming next.

Re: Cyborg Force For Dreamcast
It cost me with postage about £35 I think which wouldn't differ much from a Wave release (£30 + PP)Dreamcastnews wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 11:26 am This is one of those times where I hope Wave pick this one up to distribute in the UK. I can't justify it otherwise sadly!

I agree with the sheer amount of copies printed, Pixelheart have learnt that the hard way with so many copies of their entire catalogue still available. When there is the luxury of time to grab these games, people seem to step back and think 'do I really need that' rather than, there's 200 copies ever, I MUST have that before it is gone forever.
I loved what Wave were doing with the PAL release style cases and such, and honestly, I will only buy independent releases in these cases now as the art style for jewel case releases is too inconsistent and looks unsightly on my shelf next to uniformed JAP/USA and PAL releases.
I think Flea! is a perfect example of what went wrong with Wave, it's a NES game and should have been bundled with Tape Worm for the price being asked for it, I personally don't think NES Maker laziness should be on the Dreamcast to begin with but that's a hot personal take and I know others would say you could also apply that to the JoshProd Neo Geo ports that add nothing to the more powerful gains of the Dreamcast.
That being said, it's getting harder for me to justify the price of physical Dreamcast releases these days, Harlequest is an exception because it seems to actually use the Dreamcast's capability in a meaningful way.
