dreamcast cant read GD-ROM but CD-R backups work fine, EDIT

hm, well here's what I did

moved the dial millimeter by millimeter until it was almost full cranked (clockwise) which at that point 1 gd rom (crazy taxi) began to work 2/3 times maybe because the game takes up so little space

turned it 1 click more and then crazy taxi 2 worked...once

however when I put in your JGR rip (which worked perfectly before) it now refused to boot

now here comes the strange part I put the dial back to center where it was and now nothing booted not even JGR which originally worked

after letting it sit for 10 minutes i tried again where JGR worked 100% of the time (GDs didnt of course since i turned it back)

but whats the deal, did the laser have to rest or something?

ok guys its not reading cd-rs anymore regardless of pot tweaking

I want to replace the laser buy i hear replacing the gdrom assembly is easier

does anyone know where i could get one, i looked online to no avail

Well, while you can find complete gd assemblies, it won't be easy and/or cheap at all, since the ones you will find are for NAOMI/NAOMI2 arcade boards, and still if you get one, you will have to change the PCB inside the assembly cuz they aren't compatible with the DC motherboard... your 2 best choices are:

1) get a second hand dc at ebay

or

Also, the tutoril is for those who have the SAMSUNG gd drive, not YAMAHA, so you are in methinks

Yes, you have a yamaha drive... you can still do the mod, but you have to figure out how to fit the new lens into the assembly... that'd require additional cutting
