And to be honest, I have the official light gun, the Mad Cats Dream Blaster, and the Interact Light Gun. And frankly the best one is the Dream Blaster. While the worst is the official gun.

Now thats personal preference, but I stand by it.
I've held the interact one, and I don't know how you can see it as better; it feels cheap and unbalanced. But I'm not going to go into that.

I know I don't, but I trust official peripherals much more with my dreamcast. If you use unofficial, there's a chance the cheapness of the product could short out your controller board. Also, I don't want to bother importing games. I'm just looking for a way to modify the official gun and that's it.

Well first, I LOATHE third party options.

I make constant reference to that on my YouTube channel. It has nothing to do with that.

I prefer the Mad Catz one, which pisses me off because I love Sega and hate Mad Catz.

As for that, I wish you all the luck in the world in modifying the gun.

But I'm saying, if you import the alternate version of the game, you've essentially solved your problem. Thats all.

I know, I've considered that option, and decided against it. I do appreciate your input though. I'm not insisting on modifying the japanese gun. I just know that these guns aren't too easy to come by, and I happen to have found a Japanese gun for a very low price. I'm always short on cash, so I figured that if I could get it to work it would be an excellent option. What's your youtube channel? I might take a look.

Hello again, everyone. Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I figured I'd give the import gun a shot and I bought it.

If anyone with a tech background can shed some light on this, it'd be greatly appreciated. There are 3 chips on the board. One just looks like it's meant for general operations, so I'll ignore it. The other 2 are labeled as follows: IC2:HM89AH LM359M, and IC4: LVX 240 902.

I assume one of these little chips contains the region data, so if anyone has any idea which is which, I'd appreciate your help.

Couldn't you just burn a copy of the import version of the game also?

Don't the iso's have to have bits and pieces taken out so that they can fit onto a CD, rather than a GD? I might do that. I'm also looking into getting some imports. They're less expensive and easier to find than I thought they would be. I'm just asking because I think it's good as an option, but at this point I'm thinking I should just give up on the idea.

Thanks for all the help though, guys. A couple of you gave some really useful links, and the rest of you shed as much light as you could. Thanks again. 8-)

Honestly, most games never filled up a full 1GB GDrom, so most games that were already under 700mb would fit on a standard CD no problem. For games that filled up the GDr's like Sonic Adventure for example, only the movies would have to be slightly downsampled. Most games are really good anyway, and the actual game don't suffer.

Now, for the early iso's, they would make a lot of reader noise when loading data, but Tuxthewise has optomised the folder structure of the discs and put most data toward the outer part of the disc, thus lowering the distance the laser has to travel to read files.

In many cases, Tux can make games load faster than retail versions, like Tony Hawk for example so the game loads faster.

On Half-Life, Tux lowered the loading times of levels from 30 seconds down to 15 seconds, therefore making the game more optomized than ever! ;)

haven't read all the thread, but the lightguns doesn't have any kind of lockout. The lockout is present in the US games so you cannot use the OFFICIAL JAPANESE lightgun. If you are using a 3rd party lightgun it will work with any game from any region, assuming it does makes use of the lightgun, that is

Hmm. I tried downloading some of his files. He said to use 7Zip. I did, and it's not working. It says "Cannot open file [filename] as archive." It just refuses to continue. Any idea why?
