Sega seems to have lost their ambition...they only do "safe" games that r expected to sell instead of trying something outside the box...thats what made sega great...takin risks not playin it safe...

Yet their "safe" games haven't exactly sold very well. So they have failed at the same time they have lost their creativity and innovation.

Sega's been that way ever since Sammy Corp took them over. You only have to look at the steady exodus of top Sega talent leaving Sega (eg Yuji Naka, Tetsuya Mizuguchi etc) since Sammy took over to see that they aren't interested producing innovative games anymore, they'd rather play it safe and milk Sega's back catalog, the only thing is that this strategy hasn't worked out either and now Sega are going to have to rebuild that team of innovative game designers and developers. All in all its a pretty sad state of affairs and quite avoidable too imo.

I personally think Sega would of been better off doing the merger with Bandai that was being talked about. At least Bandai can recognize innovation when they see it.

I remember the Bandai-Sega rumor back when Tomagotchis were selling like hotcakes, I so wanted that merger. The problem with Sammy is they have almost nothing to do with gaming. American Sammy released a few mediocre games on the NES, SNES, and there was a few for the PS1/PS2 and that was about the extent of it. At least Bandai has lots of great intellectual property or rights to IP that is perfect for gaming. Can't say the same for American Sammy...

@CruSega. From the Casino Slot patent filed last week by SEGA Corporation. Sammy is going to start selling their commerce machines in North America, namely Casino Slots,UFO Prize Machines in Supermarkets, in fact I wouldn't be surprise if Sammy starts manufacturing ATMs and Vending Machines. Sammy's game making career was VERY short lived. Remember Amagon?

Sammy corp is a machine company. They aren't controlling SEGA or their business decision. SEGA making and selling a console is Hijime Satomi's decision and his alone.

In regards to talent. SEGA has shifted all of its effort into digital, social networking content. Alot of thier stronger titles will be the digital IPs. You're not going to see A titles from them until they get their own game console platform out to the market.

As for SEGA merging with Bandai. Not happening anytime soon, because SEGASammy have been making profit for nearly 3 years and are doing EVEN better then usual. The main problem is overseas multiplatform titles which is why SEGA is shuttering its entire optical 3rd party division as a whole and switching to digital only content.

Think about all the R&D money and budget their are going to save with this new strategy! Think about how in a couple of years, SEGA could pump all that money from their nest egg into bringing back the 1990s talent that created noteworthy classics and bring out another TRUE console instead of just an Android gaming tablet. Digital content budget is below the Millions and into the high thousands. No more spending and WASTING $50-60 million into multiplatform titles that will never outsell Modern Warfare or GTA or Madden.

I would like for you to think about SEGA's R&D a few years from now and the fact that SEGASammy's Operating Income has fallen to terrific levels where they can afford to sell a home consumer product.

Never say never, Never say die.

BTW, Vita is failing in Japan:

And this type of news adds insult to injury assuring lackluster sales:

You referring to Naoya Tsurumi SEGA's Global Marketing Officer. He's fleunt in english.

Tsurumi was asked by Gamespot Australia in October 2009 if SEGA had any plans to reenter the console business, he tried to dodge the question, but there's a 3 second delay in which he anwsers "No." Very calmly.
