Don't get me wrong, I love the Dreamcast and many things Sega has done. Investing in games like Rez, Samba de Amiga, Jet Set Radio, Seaman was bold, innovative and probably shsupposedly r creators that they can push boundaries and still be successful.

Can also see why it is preferred by some people over new stuff. But it seems some people think their preference is some rule that should be followed. It is also frustrating to see this behavior around the Dreamcast, as it as partly this type of thinking that killed it. People looked down on it as it had a bunch of supposedly goofy games

This article is fantastic, and it's maybe the most eloquent piece of writing that I've read on the subject, even if it does make too many broad generalizations. The commercial failure of the Dreamcast was in many ways the death-knell for truly ambitious, left-field, creative video game experiences. There are still some really cool things coming out in the indie space these days (somebody mentioned Outer Wilds, which I completely agree is phenomenal), but the time when offbeat games like Rez, Seaman, and Jet Grind Radio were given the same budget and creative leeway as mainstream fare is long, long gone.
