Re: i have decided to ditch all cd/dvd based video game media
I see this often. People say it never happen to them, so they say it is impossible. It has happened to me with PC games and other disc based console games. Granted, where I live in North Central Texas has wild fluctuation in temperatures and weather conditions. It can get well below freezing here in the winter, and can get well over 40c in the summer. I also live far east enough that we can get some HUMID years. Especially when an El Nino weather pattern hits us. So maybe that has something to do with it? Maybe it is a combination of poor materials in the pressing process and the environment they are stored in?

Either way it exists.
What do you have to gain in denying that disk rot exists?
It is a real problem.
I have seen it on tons of my audio cd's and several games.
From now on I will pass on buying retro cd/dvd based games.
That being said if some1 is selling a copy of panzer dragoon saga for 1 dollar of course I will buy it.
But, as far as collecting retro video games for cd/dvd systems, this will be on the bottom of the list for me.
I have also heard of bit rot too.
Does this mean that even cartridges are susceptible to damage?
I guess if you had all of your games backed up on redundant servers?
But, hard drives fail, networks go down, and of course power outages etc.
Lol ya nothing is full proof.

Hey Aleron! Just been super busy with all manner of things, stretched a wee bit thin in those aspects. One can have way to many projects.Aleron Ives wrote:Tweeg, my dude! Where have you been hiding?game_player_s wrote:Pinholes can be caused by flaws in the painted on label of the disc
