I've never heard the early models classified that way, what are the characteristics of a "model 0?" Aluminum fans and heat pipe cooling system?

I have 2 USA launch dreamcasts, manufacturing date in 1999, and they both have the aluminum fan and heat pipe system. I also have a DC with manufacturing date in 2000, with the black plastic fan.

@ Neohound:

I just liked TrickStyle a lot. That's all... Not a lot of replay value, but a fun ride while it lasts... ^^

@ Dark:

Didn't know there were US models with heatpipes. I always thought those were JPN exclusive...

My 2 launch DCs definitely have them. Also, the European launch date was just a month after the USA launch, so I would think there is a good chance the PAL launch ones have a similar configuration.

elmagicochrisg: As you can see from my original question, they are not JPN exclusives. It 's only a myth.

dark: Really!? It's known as a Model "0" due to the circled number found on the lower right corner of the sticker found underneath the unit. These models aside from the aluminum heating pipes and fan also happen to be manufactured in Japan (as oppose to latter model being made in China, Taiwan, and various other asian territories) and have a GD drive manufactured by Yamaha (which is supposedly better and more durable) as oppose to the Samsung drive. You may be right about there being a PAL model "0" but i'd like to know for sure.

Mine appeared to be made August of 99. It's has been said that these models had a very short run between 98 and at some point in 99 before model "1s" and "2s" came into production.

I just got a JPN copy of DOA2 in the mail. It is the one that has the semi-nude kasumi graphic on the disc. Does this mean conclusively that it is DOA2 LE with all the extra backgrounds/characters/moves?

Can you take a pic of the game case? That is the only way to see if it's a regular or the LE version.

If your refering to the semi nude scene in the game intro, than that is also in the US version via a simple code. Nothing special.

I'm talking about this

And the front cover/manual looks like this

It doesn't say Limited Edition anywhere on the case or spine card and the auction I got it from didn't say it was DOA2LE - but I've only ever seen auctions which advertised it as LE with this cover and disc.

Don't quote me but I believe that is the regular edition. The LE variant has only Kasumi in the cover of the manual.

A lot of people post wrong info on ebay regarding LE variants, for example, I always see people sell jet set radio as DeLa Jet set radio. It's as clear as night and day with that one. The former has Beat and the latter has Gum on the cover :/

I went on Japanese amazon.com and found the version with this cover, and the translated title mentioned "limited edition"
After doing some more sleuthing, I think it's vice versa from what you said: non-LE JPN DOA2 has just Kasumi in the manual and the disc has no glossy graphic of Kasumi, simply saying Dead or Alive 2 on it.

Hmm interesting indeed! I may have to look into this myself. If it's not too much trouble, so can you, if bayman can be unlocked for versus and tag play then it certainly is a the Limited Edition. Keep me on the loop if you find more info.
