Oh yeah, Fallout 3 was trash in comparison. I don't think they were going for the same thing but Fallout had some pretty bland environments and no atmosphere whatsoever. I personally think Bethseda gave up after Morrowind but all my friends are obsessed with Skyrim, Fallout 3, and Oblivion. Have you checked out the Mount and Blade series? I think those games were made in Russia as well and they are fantastic. Horseback sword and bow fighting, castle sieges, etc. all rolled into a fantastic combat focused RPG; you can change out peoples gear and control over a hundred troops at a time, so epic.

yeah see thats where I have trouble, my processor in my big, old, tower pc is only a 3ghz single core processor :( it does have a 512mb graphics card and 4mb ram but for some reason the processor always lets it down. I'm ridiculously tempted to buy a Dell Vostro for £450, it has a 1 gb graphics card, 2.60ghz dual coure i5 and 6 gb ram!! I would be able to play pretty much anything on that wouldn't i?

I don't enjoy current generation games either, not that there are no good games in this generation, but i miss having fun playin them, and being addicted to them, something that is difficult nowadays, and it's not because i have aged, i still have fun playing my Dreamcast, Saturn, whatever old games.. It's just that something is missing, p.e i can understand (and i know) that Uncharted 3 is a great game, but gimme Crazy Taxi and i'll forget that game even exists. Other think i'm realising now, replaying most of the nowadays games after completing them, it's boring as hell (it's like we're seeing a movie or somethin). I miss how games were so different back in the day, and I wish this generation had more creative games like Heavy Rain, Portal, etc.

Some say the "Hardcore Videogames" died with the Dreamcast, and i agree with them.

the thing with the Dreamcast was that it somehow managed to successfully create a software library that, at the same time, had some of the most phenomenol pick up and play games ever while still having loads of games that were deep and long, but you didn't feel like you were replaying them for the hell of it, you replayed them because they were fun and different and all about the game play. At least that's my thought anyway

Ultra, you're right about the pick-up-and-play quality of many of the DC's finest games. I think because the arcades have died that ,since then, game makers think people don't want 'arcade' type games anymore......... and that is bollocks !

devilhunter, you've made some excellent points there. The Dreamcast really was a 'hardcore' machine but I think also had a wide appeal. I think the selection you had/have with the DC of japanese and western games, rpgs and arcade titles, old skool 2d fighting games plus more modern 3d iterations, adventure, all varieties of Schmups, platformers, horror, fps and puzzlers was a heady mix. Everyone was catered for and that's why it's so fondly remembered especially by those of us on this forum !

I can understand your frustration with this gen as it will probably never have the same impact on you as the Dreamcast did back then and even now. Nowadays, people take far too much interest in the 'big name branded' game series and not enough notice of the true gems. That's a fault of the game makers, publishers and distributors - not enough risk taking and creativity compared to past generations.

But you mention Uncharted, Heavy Rain and Portal so you obviously know a good game when you see it. Maybe you have to dig a little deeper to find the fun in this gen. Deadly Premonition, Alan Wake and LA Noire are games I'd urge you to try as they are cut from a similar cloth to Heavy Rain. And there are plenty of unique shooters reminiscent of Portal on every new gen system.

When I was playing Tales Of Vesperia, El Shaddai, Child Of Eden and Eternal Sonata on Xbox360 I got a similar buzz to what I experienced with the DC and they should be played by as many people as possible.

Some of these games are available at great prices for example Prey can be had for one or two pounds, Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon for 5 to 10 pounds, Alan Wake for less than a tenner etc etc

If we all want games that are addictive, challenging, meaningful and creative from the next gen then we all have to vote with our wallets. Stop buying the same old crap and maybe publishers will eventually get the message !

I think another phenomenol adventure game from the current gen that has to be mentioned is Enslaved.

And I'd have to say if I had to pick one game that should've been on the Dreamcast or would've been at home there, (apart from Child of Eden) it would have to be Sonic Colours, best Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 2 BAR NONE

I'll have check Sonic Colours and Enslaved out. Thanks for the tip. I've often looked at the cover of Enslaved and wondered what it was like. I just assumed Sonic Colours would be crap :?

I agree with both, the Dreamcast had an excellent library of unique and fun games, and that was/is what playing videocames is all about. (ARCADE GAMING FTW!!)

Neohound, you mentioned some games i've been waiting to give a try too, like LA Noire, Alan Wake and Eternal Sonata. You're absolutelly right when you say that big companies have overshadowed the creative and (potentially)risky game ideas with "fast sell, safe grounded" games. We need to show them the "Hardcore" gamers are still around, and loosing interest in the crap they are trying to sell us nowadays.

Thanks so much for the inspiring words.

(Btw personally i think that Sonic Colours is the best Sonic game since SA2, and Sonic Generations 2nd best)

Enslaved is one of the most gorgeous and vividly well realised single player action games I've ever played, the voice acting is monumental and the graphics (if you install the game on your HD) are nothing short of ground breaking, a truly heartfelt triumph of a game for me.

Sonic Colours saw the long awaited return to form that Sonic so desperately needed. Sadly the public is now SOOO used to how poor all the sonic games have been since the DC that no one knew about it when one finally got it right.

Hey, no worries ! It's nice of you to say such a thing :)

Of course there is an answer to all of this: just play on your Dreamcast some more !

Have anyone out there still to play Lack Of Love ? Or Skies and Grandia2, Shenmue 1&2, Project Justice:RS2, Shadowman, D2 ? There's Rayman 2 and Napple Tale, Evil Twin if you like platformers. Space Cannel 5 pts 1&2 and JSR ? Le Mans 24hr, Vanishing Point, F355 and Rush ?

Have you got Record Of Lodoss War, PSO, Draconus/Dragon's Blood ? Finished DOA2, MvC2, Garou, Jo Jo's etc etc ?

If the answer is no to any of those questions then it's time to get out your DC and, for a while, just forget this generation ever existed !!

Ultra, that's very interesting. I must get on and aquire those games - they are both less than a tenner in Gamestation (UK).

BTW Why put Enslaved on the HD ? It actually improves the visuals ? :?
