Do you have regular av cables that aren't going through that box? My assumption is something is using way too much power, could be the box maybe.

No, I always play in old TV with standard A/V cable, and first time I noticed the problem was this way.

Just wanted to nudge this out - new firmware:
http://3do-mnemo.com/USB-GDROM_Controller.htm
I was asking mnemo about integrating game IDs a while back, so USB GDROM could be used with the VM2. He said he could just implement saving direct to the USB storage instead. This was back in January.
I nudged him on the topic the other day as 8BitMods was hinting its next MemCard Pro will be a VMU, and he slapped the new fw up. Which is nice.
Not tried it yet, hopefully it's all nice and functional though.

Cool thanks for the update! You should also nudge him and ask him to make a Sega Saturn and Sega CD ode

funny, saving on a usb that is not physically connected to the maple bus, there are two options, either he is a chatterbox and will not do anything, or he will copy the code from DreamShell and this will break compatibility in many games.
In any case, do not expect that it will work well.

The feature is for dumping entire VMU to USB storage device, or restoring VMU dump from USB storage device to VMU.
There is no direct save to USB storage device.

in that case it will work, but it's complete crap, you need to wait 30-40 seconds each time before starting the game, plus it eats up the VMU resource

Has anyone tried it yet? I've not had a chance (life makes demands), but if someone's had a go and can report back it'd be good to hear how it works. Or doesn't.

Dumping of a VMU2 to the USB storage device seems to work okay. It does not save individual VMU game saves.
MNEMO supplied seven bin's as an example, in a folder titled, "VMU Backups", named the following:
Code: Select all
VMU - A-B-C-D games.bin
VMU - E-F-G-H games.bin
VMU - I-J-K-L games.bin
VMU - M-N-O-P games.bin
VMU - Q-R-S-T games.bin
VMU - U-V-W-X games.bin
VMU - Y-Z-0-9 games.bin
The 128KB files need to be created previously and then selected in the menu before using RIGHT+B on the controller to save.
It will not automatically create a VMU save file, if the bin is not selected, and it seems to not allow you to overwrite any random bin files in the folder. Assume it does a size check on the bin before saving.
Not sure about reading of bin files and writing back to the VMU, if there is any check or it just happily writes any random 128KB file to the VMU, I don't particularly want to sacrifice a VMU to test.
The feature could come in handy if short on VMU storage or just want to save a VMU file for sharing or archiving.
I am not sure of the other fixes MNEMO makes mention of being included in the firmware as there is no changelog included. If anyone knows please share...
Edit: Forgot to mention there is now a "10 Year Anniversary" logo included on boot up. If anyone wants screenshots let me know.
Ted.

I asked him for a changelog, he said no
