Yup, I thought it was strange as well. It makes it really easy to connect to a private server so no complaints from me!

I wonder how people were supposed to know what to enter when the game was released, though. Does the instruction manual say what you're supposed to do, or was the game so indie even back in 2000 that you were just supposed to go to the No Cliche website to get the current server IP address, or something?

No idea! I ordered a legit copy of the game but I'm using a burnt copy in the meantime. I'll check to see what the manual says when I get it.

People weren't supposed to know, because in europe bba wasn't released officially and no "european games" supported that. (even though some did)
BBA compatibility is hidden, it doesn't show up in the manual at all.
There are more games that ask for it if you have bba: Bomberman online does it as well.

Back in the day, It used to connect automatically to the dreamarena over the phone modem, where everyone had his unique username/password.

Just gave it a try and it just kept dialing, did not ask for anything
