Well, tonight I am going to give this a try. So far I got Win98 to work in the past, but not Win2k or WinXP (not to mention it was WinME that killed my Win98 DC-PC). This would be really cool to get to work.

I'm using a SmartLink 56K Voice modem on COM3.

I get an error message when the VM boots up and I try to install ubuntu (7.1.0), saying




But nothing else is using it! I checked my processes, tried disabling/enabling, and have tried using other versions of ubuntu. Same message. Anyone got any ideas?

do u have any call waiting apps that came with your modem driver? I hate those and that could be causing the problem.

The same exact thing happened to dobbs when he was trying to set this up. So I have to ask a couple questions..
1) Do you have admin rights on your windows user account?
and
2) Have you edited any registry keys in relation to your 56k modem?

What we did (brourke228 and to a lesser extent, "I") was replace my modem with a second modem on a different com port.
