Ah great to see I am not the only one. I am sure he will fix it in due time.
Does this happen on both the standard and widescreen versions?
Yes I can confirm.

My theory is that he accidentally converted a bad dump of the game... thats why its unplayable past mid stage 3 for everyone and the random slowdown even on real hardware.

Besides the bug earlier, I get random lockups when leaving the game in attract mode for a while.
EDIT: This on gdemu clone, 5.15

Could it be that the game has some kind of copy protection that introduces these bugs in level 3? I'm reminded of Sonic Adventure 2, which, if it determines it is a pirated version, makes one of the levels near the end impossible to complete by placing the character above a pit when the level starts.

This is amazing Mr Megavolt85. It's only a matter of time before you get that Nobel science prize nomination.

If I could take you out for a pint I would and you could regale with tales of your awesomeness and I could give you the inside track on grinding to be Chao jedi in SA2. It's official - and while it's taken 20 years Megavolt has just confirmed what we already knew. The dreamcast won Ken Kutaragi :D
