I admit the trinitron is by far the best (picture quality wise) "old" tv you can have. but still; don't shoot HD till you tried it.
I dare you to find someone with a hdtv (preferably a samsung series 5 or higher) that has a vga-in & a dreamcast hooked up to it with its vgabox (like me). you'll never play on that old tv again (or at least not dreamcast, anything older in fact DOES look better on an old tv).

Im sorry but im pretty sure CRT's have mercury in them.
http://www.alliedwastenashville.com/tv- ... pickup.php LCD's have mercury in them ONLY if use fluorescent lighting. But if you count that then you have to count the CFL light in your home you use. LED Tv's are mercury free.

I've yet to see an svid cable for the dreamcast.
it has a scart rgb cable though.
but that still doesn't come close to vga. see, its not the cable that "upscales" the signal to vga (like with the cube & ps2); the vga cable actually tells the dreamcast (by grounding 2 pins) to switch to vga signal INTERNALLY. thus it outputs a REAL vga image.

I use s-video for my Dreamcast. It is a third party cable though. Not sure who makes it though since it came with my DC. Its gold plated and works with Gamecube and PS2 as well. The quality is much better than composite and its great for recording if you can't afford a capture card with vga or component inputs.

im wanting a Svideo cable for the Dreamcast that i am keeping. they do make them, as far as picture i can only speak for how well it improved my xbox/ps2/cube. you will see a difference. the color will be true and sharper also the lines will be more crisp.

its better than normal AV but not by much. Plus u need a VGA adapter for svideo so you might as well use it on a good tv. or a trinitron monitor

No you don't. My DC a/v cable has s-video and not vga.

Dude, you are mistaken, when I went from a crt moniter to my Acer 20 inch LCD I noticed a marked difference in the quality on my PC games. Crysis looks sick in HD on my moniter! You must not be able to get a HD monitor or TV or you wouldn't talk so highly about CRT's.
Trust me, LCD is better than plasma, and DLP is better than all others!

yeah brourke228 is correct. S-Video has nothing to do with VGA. my tv has 3 S-video inputs but it doesn't have any VGA inputs.

no I mean I have never seen an official Svideo cable for DC. I have seen 3rd party standalone ones but everyone I see people says it a piece of Chinese made crap. The only I have seen with reliable review are the VGA adapter with Svideo. I guess there are some good ones out there.
