I'll get one of the adapters and test with you. I've been mulling it over for a few years so might as well see if it works.

Got my adapter. I think I have the configuration figured out. I can make calls from my phone on 4G over the internet to the adapter on my home network so that's a good sign, means that direct IP calling works.

To test, I'm using a SIP app on my smartphone (cSIPsimple) to dial the adapter's IP address and ring a phone attached to the phone port of the adapter. I can do this on my local network as well as over the internet. I don't have a Pi but I've also dialed into my remote access server to verify that its modem answers the call (it does). With only one adapter I can't test if a dial-up connection can be made.

I do. I think of all the netlink games that one will be most tolerant of a spotty connection.

Do you have a phone you can attach to your adapter? We'll need some way to verify that our adapters can talk to each other (pun intended) before we try netlinks.

I agree with that about bomberman :) I unfortunately do not have a telephone, but I'll see if I can snag one maybe at good will or something.

a great way to play backup netlink games is with this http://ppcenter.webou.net/pskai/, as much as i love these games, in my opinion its hard to justify paying $100 to $1000 for them. just putting this here so you guys can test more games. i think you can do a cartridge swap with this with the netlink/action replay ect (might not though) worth a shot though
