believe me it doesn't matter, he himself admitted that his DreamCast uses a BIOS that is not compatible with MIL-CD, which means that he does not have access to the latest version of openmenu and many games until he replaces his BIOS
So, this is one of the weird & rare Dreamcast - no mil-cd bios, but old drive controller layout supporting ODE. Should work in theory with GDI's of openMenu or gdmenu & games, yes? Does the latest openMenu from megavolt85 requires mil-cd support? If so, why? Sonik's tool supports creating either menu in GDI format. What happens if you build a new card with gdmenu instead of openmenu?

There are VA1 units that don't support MIL-CD?

I think in your case then you might want to have your dreamcast bios moded

the latest version of openmenu uses the same bootloader as GDMENU, if an unsupported BIOS version is used, then the patches will not be applied. on such a console, only GDI of the same region as the console itself will work.

Yes, these are the earliest consoles, but there are very few of them.

Even a region patched GDI won't work? If so, that explains a lot.

This chart says internally it's a Japan 670-14071G (not 670-14071F). I wonder if Sega snuck this board in the last minute and didn't change the label or maybe its not the original board or maybe the BIOS has been previously messed with or maybe the documentation has the model numbers mixed up!

Edit: After taking another look, it looks like Japan 670-14071F should be type 3.

Regarding manually patching GDIs for region and VGA flag, I put together a little tool that makes it pretty easy.

Can we get navigation sounds in open menu?

OK, then Japan 670-14071F can launch GDI's only with openMenu/gdmenu, but first region-free patch the TOSEC GDI with ateam's tool: https://github.com/DerekPascarella/Drea ... ck-Patcher

legolas119 wrote: Tue Dec 31, 2024 3:42 pm oh i didn't know that!!!!many thanks, i will watch the video! Well, in order to use your fork instead the current one, how i can do? I mean, which are the files/folders i have to delete in my microSD before to use your OpenMenu fork?

thanks!
Just follow my tutorial. That's all you need. Nothing has to be thrown away. You don't need to touch any files on your SD card (assuming that it's already working with either gdMenu or openMenu right now).
Done! i followed your really clear tutorial and now i have some of missing cover! I still have some missing cover:
1) Xenocrisis
2) Sturmwind --> manca descrizione
3) Gunlord
4) Neo XYX
5) Fast Striker
6) Dux
7) Last Hope Pink Bullets
8) The Ghost Blade
9) TMNT COWABUNGA COLLECTION (Midnight Ed.

but i will add them as showed into the video. How i can know if it is necessary to modify the serial of some games? for example, Xeno Crisis has serial = BB-0001: is it better to modify it for example in this way: XENO
Or TMNT COWABUNGA COLLECTION (Midnight Ed.) has serial = T93355M. Can i leave it or is it better to change it?

I kindly ask you some others questions:

1) Currently my VMU card hasn't the battery, i have to order a new one. When i save the GMmenu options, are they saved into the Dreamcast or VMU battery? I tried several times to SAVE the setting of GDmenu, but if i turn off and turn on the dreamcast, settings are always restored to default...it seems that the Save option doesn't work properly..?

2) It is still present a little bug: Fist of the North Star has the "Rumbe Fish" cover, as in the old OpenMenu version. https://i.postimg.cc/sx8P1Wyw/Whats-App ... 4-18-2.jpg. The serial of the game in my GD menu card manager is T0009M but checking the game cover in the Openmenu DAT, it is T0026M. How i can fix it?

3) some games have the Title really big: https://i.postimg.cc/90f1DV9F/Whats-App ... -54-18.jpg Is it possible to fix it? I would like the title with smaller size, like this one for example: https://i.postimg.cc/xC63D7Zr/Whats-App ... 4-18-1.jpg

4) As soon as i turn on the Dreamcast, i have this view: https://i.postimg.cc/BvsT8499/Whats-App ... -54-19.jpg But if i change from Sort = Default to Sort = Name, it appears in this way: https://i.postimg.cc/Vv3MzcBh/Whats-App ... 4-19-1.jpg
Is it not possible to show a global list with all the games in alphabetical order like in the "old" openMenu? If i'm not wrong, into the old OpenMenu, choosing GDemu theme, it showed the list of the games with their cover.
If not, why i can't sort for Name this theme https://i.postimg.cc/BvsT8499/Whats-App ... -54-19.jpg ? I don't understand how Gdmenu order them... Is this the only way to order games using the Name? https://i.postimg.cc/Vv3MzcBh/Whats-App ... 4-19-1.jpg
Probably it continues to order games following the order of the numbers of folders into the sd card: https://i.postimg.cc/WzRgvv7H/gdemu.jpg
Using SORT LIST in GD Menu card manager, i sorted all the folders using the game name, so i solved in this way the issue

thank you very much!
