Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology. I just found it had the metal fan/pipes and 5v bios. It's jap type 1 manufactured by Saiyo D. got no rental sticker. nothing special I think, but looking really nice after a proper wash. To think this baby is becoming 26 yo.

I was cheking out controllers with 6 face bottons, but it became less of a deal when I moved from the couch to a desk. Now I just use the arcade stick.

Thanks to the detailed information posted here and at DC-SWAT forums I was able to finish my "period correct" Dream IDE Reborn mod with a Maxtor Hard drive and external enclosure (painted and decaled appropriately). It has been a long ride, I think I paid $20 for the Dream IDE board in 2017, but after I lifted a pad for pin 1 I put it down for a while. Then it took me too long to figure out that the first Maxtor drive I was using just wasn't in good shape. But after I ordered a new one and reloaded everything all is working swimingly!
Current setup has a working launch model Jpn GD-ROM drive in it, and an SD card Serial Adapter with Dreamshell 4.0 installed. The IDE has the latest RetroDream loaded so I can press start at bootup and switch between either OS for games that work better on one than the other.

Sick setup. I considered using the Master System convertor with my Genesis instead of getting a Master System, but I just couldn't help myself in getting another console.

Power Base thing? Then the Everdrive won't work and it does Master System just dandy

I got a full Genesis Model 2+Model 2 CD+32x (nukes Master System compatibility for some blasted reason), Model 1 with Ext Port on its own. No more legacy systems for me I've like 19-20 jacked in

How do you mean you’ll never understand? If a game is programmed to be played that way, that’s how it’s meant to be played

I’ll try to explain:

You wouldn’t play a game like Sonic, which is meant to be played in a horizontal setting, vertical, would you? ;)
It has everything to do with how far you can see ahead, Imagine having to play Sonic which is horizontally oriented on a vertical monitor, you’d barely be able to see left and right, to see what lies ahead because the playfield is so narrow. The same rule applies for vertically oriented games, when forced to a horizontal oriented screen, you lose about 1/4 to 1/3 of your playfield which you obviously need to see enemies coming & dodge stuff.

I made a pic so you can see how that would (or rather wouldn’t) work, don’t mind the shitty Paint work

My CRT family will despise me for flipping them vertical, lol
