Didn't realize that but yup, that appears to the the case according to id Software's Github page:

https://github.com/id-Software/Quake
The code is all licensed under the terms of the GPL (gnu public license).
You should read the entire license, but the gist of it is that you can do
anything you want with the code, including sell your new version. The catch
is that if you distribute new binary versions, you are required to make the
entire source code available for free to everyone.
In that case we'll have to wait for an official release from Shu as I doubt he'll want to release the source at this point.

considering the build is almost two years old I thought it would be a fun surprise, but I didn't know about the clause in the GPL, and the initial "are you sure this is ok?" posts made me rethink what I just did

I respect PCs view and decision to remove the link. if anything was shitty it was not putting up a server or making the CDI myself which would create a clusterf*ck of different ISOs that make finding the eventual release a lot harder than it needed to be

I guess the least I could do is buy a server host, setup a really nice 2fort server, then see what happens in this thread if it should be relinked or not

Conclusion: No harm, no foul in this case as no ill will was intended or done. Like PCwzrd13 said, always ask in these situations.

Credit goes to Shuouma, who has been all class about this.

Actually this thread was pretty hard for me to read, due to I trust certain people with my work. But I also don't want this community to be poison. Hence, the flame of the community got me back in reversing.

Love
Shu

at some point, the offer to help with redoing the rendering in your engine still stands with some/all of the nuquake rendering engine updates.

Or if you wanna collab on how you did sound, feel free to reach me here or on discord. Good to see you're still doing dreamcast work. I know i've always appreciated your work.

I spoke to shu privately about this. but I just want to apologize to the entire community, this scene is one of the few non-toxic places to hang out in, and what I did was very toxic and inexcusable

big props to PC for acting so quickly

Dan, as punishment you must clean the books in Shenmue for all eternity.
